First Mods: Dipped grill, 3rd bed rail, Prinsu cab rack, Relentless cross bars

After camping the first time, I wanted a way to secure items in the bed without fear of them flying out but didn't want a topper or a cover. So easy bed net to the rescue. Only caveat is that it need the third bed rail that Toyota stopped including on the 3rd gens.

Next up, nabbed the best looking rack around on a group buy, back before Zach sold his business to CBI. Cheaped out on powdercoating, as I often do, and dipped it black and orange, because why the hell not.

After a bit of research, for an RTT setup that would be even height with the roof rack, I settled on the Relentless 8" tall crossbars. I had thought the addition of mounting panels, tabs, and hi-lift mounts would work out well but the unfortunate placement of each and made them difficult to work with.

    Also, UPS hates crossbars.

Painted the crossbars with some flat black rustoleum

    RTT Hoist and Shakedown

Building the hoist for the RTT was the final piece of my initial build-out. I actually had bought the tent in a group buy before the crossbars and even before the Prinsu. After weighing different options, I settled on the Geo Adventure Gear GT-165. At 65" inches wide it fits the length of the short bed perfectly without extending beyond the tailgate. I have not seen another tent builder with this size. The mattress is about the size of a queen, which was the smallest I could get away with for sleeping 3-4 adults/children.

The hoist was made with a series of rated pulleys and paracord along with a hand crank winch. Pulleys and eye-screws were fastened directly to the the joists of the ceiling/second floor. It's not the best design as it tends to lift one side at a time, instead of distributing the force and lifting evenly. But it gets the job done on a budget. Hardest part is simply aligning the truck in the right spot each time to mount the tent.

With the tent mounted and secured, it was time for a quick shakedown run with the kiddo at Garner State Park.

Nice build. I like the stock look. I'm sure there are hours or reading regarding the sway bar relocation kit, but what does that really offer? I feel like sometimes the sway bar may be "bound" or present too tight of a front end for me... your thoughts?

I know clearance is a factor.
Can reduce/prevent rubbing on aftermarket coils.

Curious as to the effect on handling, if any.

    stock? o_O

I didn't have any issue with the sway bar until I installed the OME 886s. Then the sway bar would rub the coil every time it compressed. The relocation kit moves the sway bar forward for more clearance between the two.

    Haven't noticed any difference.

Lol @ "stock?" I meant the wheels. I feel like some folks on TW get quite carried away with wheel / tire combos, when I personally feel the stock wheels look great. Kudos.

I'll be putting on 888's with the help of @Texoma in addition to a 1/4 inch Toytec spacer, I suspect I'll be playing with sway bar relocation in the near future...

Haha, I've actually since replaced them but only with the "stock" beadlocks. I was super tempted to snag some gold SCS Ray 10s but I like the understated look.

Yeah you do man! We need some pics of those shweeet fauxlocks! :D

Definitely one of my favorite Toyota wheels. I was considering a bronze set for my green taco not too long ago.. then I stumbled upon the FJ 8hole wheels and fell in love..

Truckin along. Dreaming of wedge campers. Got a new Samsung 8" tablet for it yesterday for nav/entertaining kiddos. Need to get a mount put together
