No. It would be an access cab with long bed and bed cap. only reason we wanted double cab was protection of stuff from weather as we travel. therefore: bed cap. more stuff that can stay in the back.

 

No. Power sucks, transmission sucks, rear drums get packed with sand too easily and disintegrate, 4 wheel drive system is too fragile...

 

I myself am currently looking for my 4th Toyota Tacoma. After years have passed I should have never gotten rid of any of them. I drove the wheels off of each one and they were perfect. No issues. Life has a way of getting in the way so they left me. I am going to buy a 2nd Gen 06/10 DCSB. Not sure if it will be 2WD or 4x4. Not sure if it will be an SR5, TRD OR or Sport. We will see. But it will be a TOYOTA plain and simple.

Do it again I would have saved money and gone lower trim, still 4x4.

(I was so done with fully open diffs on my Toyota Pickup and Tacoma 1st Gen, and I got a good price on it, so I am not complaining, just trying to be more realistic in frugality)

For the average user, TRAC in 4Lo (now available on low trims without mods) is quite effective.

Still like the white with black fender flares, etc.

If I had to do it all over again I probably would try harder to hold out for a quicksand instead of silver. Maybe. Just hard to find them with the dark satin wheels ha I still would go DCLB SR5 4x4 though.

Honestly I probably would not buy my exact truck again if i knew an identical truck without the howl was available to buy. The rear howl is extremely annoying haha But that’s not something I noticed right off the bat.

TLDR: I’d buy another DCLB SR5 but maybe in quicksand this time.

Edit: If the SR5 came in Cement I would have held out for one with the dark satin alloys for sure. That color with those wheels would be AMAZING haha But I am happy with my silver still!

 

First truck. Drove my father in law's 17 pro auto and had no complaints. Seemed nice. Had a 4Runner/FJ before so I was familiar with Toyotas.

Needed something more practical and thought having a bed would be nice (and proven valuable). Found a Manual Pro and jumped on it sight unseen.

That was a mistake. Though i've driven manuals since i was 16, this one just plain sucks and I could probably have gotten by with an auto and been happier.

The clutch sucks. The long throws suck. The shaky shifter over rough terrain sucks. The drivetrain slack sucks. All the noise from the drivetrain slack sucks. The throttle sucks. All of those things lead to a real poor driving experience. yes there are solutions but I've learned that if a car is already bad, buying parts to try and band-aid those shortcomings doesn't always help.

Lacking of features that I thought i could get by without is starting to catch up with me and that's my own fault. No heated steering wheel (when it's -10 outside that is something that is almost a necessity). No front camera (yes there's an aftermarket solution i'm looking into). Non locking tailgate (yes again pop n lock) - but seriously that is just cheap on toyota's part.

Then it's the oversight in quality from toyota. The needle bearing issue. The difficulty putting on anything bigger than a 32" tire ( I really didn't expect toyota to continue the tiny wheel well / cab mount issue that's been going on since the 07 FJ and 10 4 Runner ) - again my fault. Should have dug into that and checked before buying. Failing crank position sensors. Leaking 3rd tail lights, etc.

I was seriously considering a 18 JL and everyone said how reliable Taco's were yet I'm not reading about issues like the above with JL's and my old JK was rock solid.

So when I feel the time is right, I will likely trade / sell my tacoma. For what I have no clue. If anyone wants it as is currently, I'd sell it for $41k. Until then, I'm just going to drive it and take care of it.

 

If I didn't need the use of a bed, I will switch to a 4Runner.

Caveats:

1. Availability of V6 M/T. If that didn't exist, nope. Don't get butthurt if you're an A/T guy. If you like them, cool - I don't have a problem with that. I cannot stand ANY auto trans. No need to defend yours.
2. Availability of tune to correct throttle issues, or a Toyota fix (lol, right). Otherwise, nope.

I love my truck, but I'll never buy another vehicle in it's first year of production. Yeah I know, you don't need to flame.

I wouldn't. Transmission issues have turned me off. Like someone said earlier though - there weren't many other mid-size choices that I'd be willing to bet will last as long as the Taco.

 

No, sand got packed in and broke off the electronic actuator on the front diff causing the taco to stay in 4lo on a beach in mexico... and then water got in and corroded the inside electronics... good times. Learned my lesson to not use the truck in sand and definitely not use the crawl control in sand.

 

I wanted an SR manual 4x4 but waited too long so I really regret sitting on my ass. Closest one I can find is in Florida but dealer there won't trade with any of my local dealers. Would fly down and buy it but they know what they have and aren't budging. Next closest ones are in Alaska. Damn you Toyota for discontinuing the one package I wanted! Bastards!

If yes, then you know why there’s so many after market parts for Jeeps? Because all of the original parts suck big balls. Also, how can you go from a truck to a Jeep? They’re owned by Fiat.

 

yup, given the same set of circumstances I am in, I would buy the exact same thing again, and be sure that I picked the right dealer with great service staff that properly check out new vehicles before delivery. Love my truck.

 

Yeah, it's worked out; 17' DCSB OR w/ jbl, mostly stock. Had it for about a year, haven't had time for hardly any recreational use of the truck like a lot of you guys, but I've hauled a bed full of demo. material or branches or whatever every weekend for the last maybe 8 months; the truck has worked fine, no real complaints. Took the wife and 2 pups with me last weekend; through the hills and curvy roads there and back the truck said it averaged just over 20 mpg, including hauling stuff, if it's close to accurate can't complain about that.
