I'm starting to plan out an overland build (picking up an AT Habitat in June) and am trying to figure out whether or not I can mount a standard BBQ sized Propane tank (20lb?) on a rear swingout. I see lots of the smaller tanks, sometimes 2, but can't find any pics or conversations about this. Is there perhaps a legal issue? Just not enough room perhaps? I don't plan on mounting a tire on the rear, but instead just use the swingout for propane, water, and fuel storage.

And maybe I don't need one that big? Probably looking at max trip in the near future of 5 nights. My wife and I would be using the propane for:
    • cooking
    • tankless water heater
    • Buddy Heater
    • Little Red Campfire
    Suggestions?

Looking for similar set up. Who have you decided on for your swing out? Is it a bumper combo or weld on? Sorry to digress a bit. I’ll be following...thx!

I'm pretty set on a Brute Force bumper like the below. Not positive on the standard or wrap-around high clearance yet, though. Thanks to @JeffRoyJenkins for showing it off on a Brute Force thread. I figure if I went this route plenty of places to mount stuff up, and could still use the spare tire mount in the future if I wanted to change things up.

It'll be awhile before I order one, just wanting to plan as much as possible. After ordering the Habitat, shocks, buying everything for a dual battery setup, new compressor, and a 75L fridge, the build budget is kinda drained. And I haven't even ordered new springs yet...

That’s a really good looking tail end with the swing out.

It seems like the bumper and swing out combo are about 2K. Have you seen anything less over built and more affordable? I’m a girl, after all. And probably not pushing the limits as hard. (Teheehee)

The suspension upgrades will be pretty important. I was sagging in the rear with just the 300 pound Habitat and my light camping gear.

    Watching.

@Crom don't you carry a 20# LPG bottle on your swingout at times?

O come on now, what's being a girl got to do with it? Don't sell yourself short.

Per the website, the basic Bruteforce bumper and swingout is cheaper than 2K. But yeah, prolly still around 1500. As for the suspension I plan on ordering a Deaver expedition springpack. I think it said at 700 pounds it would still have about 3 inches over stock height in the rear. I need capacity to haul the Habitat, camping gear, AND a flatbed with an ATV and SxS. How much did you beef up the rear suspension?

I've seen some of those trailer hitch mounted cargo racks, some of which can swing outta the way for access to the bed, but I think for the price, weight and extra leverage you'd still be better off going with an aftermarket rear bumper.
