So for the 2012 - 2015's Toyota fixed the frame rust and drive shaft issues? Anything else e.g., needle bearing I need to be watching?

I have the exact same symptoms as you....Dealer said the driveshaft is fine but he blamed the buzzing sound on bad wheel bearings. I haven't changed them out yet. We'll see...

My 2010 Tacoma started to vibrate and not through good tunes but due to the prop shaft. I took a look and i could see the carrier bearing was bad. I had the letter regarding the u joints so i took the truck to the dealer. They replaced the U joints at no charge but the carrier bearing was $312. I explained that it was probably the bad u joints that made the carrier bearing go bad, but no joy with that argument, i had to pay the $312. I called Toyota to complain but again no joy.

The dealer also said the trans mount was bad. i didn't have them fix it but all the shaking from the bad prop shaft could have ruined the trans mount.

This is the first time i have been back to the dealer since they erroneously told me i needed a brake job. This time they told me i need $3500 work done to the truck. I guess they try it on with everyone.

has anyone been able to convince Toyota that the bad u joints caused additional issues and got Toyota to pay for the additional work?

Got my notice today, will definitely get my truck checked out, some nice squealing noises when I take off.

Have not received a letter yet but after reading all 14 pages of this thread I am going to give my preferred dealer a call and see what they say. I have a vibration at take off that i've had prior to my new suspension (OME shocks/885's and Dakars).

Thank you for making this thread.

Got my letter today. Confirmed it's not a recall, but a "customer support" notice for driveline vibration, prop shaft, U-joints, if applicable to my truck. It also says if they find something causing said vibration that isn't related to the specific problem, I may be responsible for the initial diagnostic fees and any other repairs. I know my dealer, and I know they would "find" something. They once told me I better replace my serpentine belt after only 30K when I went in for a recall. I just laughed. Since my truck really doesn't vibrate, and I grease the u's regularly I'm passing on this one.

I have never had issues with frame rust (Florida) but my 12 has had driveline vibrations since I purchased it, I spent a lot of time with it at the dealer and they ultimately blamed the "over sized" tires or a tire being out of round. They did force road balance them for free though and it cured a lot of the issues, but would never blame the rear leafs or anything else in the leaf spring TSB. I still have a vibe around 68-79MPH though coming from the rear after installing new rims and tires.

I am currently waiting on a new carrier bearing and U-joints to see if this fixes the problem, carrier is shot, U-joints look fine but since I will have the DS off I am going to replace them anyways. if it doesn't fix it, I am going to swap out the transmission mount with the new model. If that doesn't fix it I guess I will just live with it till I get a new truck lol.

I am almost certain my truck was built using left over 2011 parts, or was built in the middle of the transition period of them changing out parts with the newer stuff they used on the 13's and up.

    I don't come to this website that often. I have a 2005 tacoma. 4cyl, 2WD, extended cab.............189K.

I got this "ujoint" vibration letter earlier this year.
Except..............I had this work done in 2014 at a local(not toyota) mechanic.
The letter mentioned all kinds of hoops to jump through if you had work done and wanted to be reimbursed.
Luckily i was able to jump through those hoops and got a refund check for about $390 last week.
cashed it yesterday. Steak Dinner here i come!

Luckily i have a date book that i record all gas fillups and all work done on the truck
and i keep the work receipts in a folder(over flowing at this point). I used AMEX to pay for this.
Luckily i keep all credit card bills......for X years. But i was to lazy to look for them
and AMEX allows you to order old bills.
To make a long story short, i got the old bill from AMEX, used the date book to find out when
i had the work done and then found the work receipt based upon that.
Sent the whole mess to toyota along with a detailed letter of what went on back then...as best i could remember.
I had my doubts if they would send anything. But they did....props for that.

FYI: I had the frame recall done in summer 2016. they did it in less than 2 days. service guy claimed they had 5 guys doing that stuff. no issues at this point...except the faded rust marks on my concrete driveway........

I'm going to drive this thing until its dead.

Curious, has anyone had work done that has gone beyond?

I had vibration, then had the U joints replaced. That was at about 100k. at around 170k, started happening again. Toytota checked me out, couldn't find anything. They flushed the transmission fluid and it magically went away. 210k, started to get more vibration. Then, Torque converter shredded. Could this issue have spread up to the transmission? If so, would there be any possible recourse?

I know, the mileage is high so may just be wear and tear, but that price tag really hurt. But overall, truck has been solid, these are the only issues except burned out headlight bulbs and I'm at 230k now.

Got my letter in the mail and took it down to Toyota, they checked it out and replaced the rear u joint. Was hoping for a new shaft but at least I dont have to replace the u joint now. Thanks Toyota

I did it all, new joints, new center bearing. I also installed the new rear trans mount that was on the TSB for vibration. In the end rebalancing the drive shaft solved the vibration.

I've had vibration issues ongoing for the past few years on 2006 Access Cab. I replaced u joints twice in this time. Coincidentally, not long after I received my letter, the vibration came back with a vengeance. My local dealership took me in, diagnosed the driveshaft issue, and put me in a loaner until the new propeller shaft came in. I hadn't realized just how bad it was until I drove it home, smooth like butta now.
