I have a Leer QX100 on my truck and I really like it . Very well built and I really like the way the side windows look. It has never leaked and the paint matches perfect, I think you would like it.20180116_161323.jpg

The rack on the roof of the topper is supported by the internal frame - the shell doesn't take any weight from items mounted on the rack - in my case, a Frontrunner Outfitters platform and a hard-shell RTT. I ordered a Thule mount bracket from Frontrunner and inverted it to mount their platform on the ARE rails (still need to modify the end-caps to fit properly and install them). The internal frame is slotted for mounting whatever you want on the inside of the bed.

See the photos of the platform mounting and the internal frame.

I'm getting my Leer 100XR installed tomorrow. I went with Leer due to the quality and customer service at that dealer in my area compared to the ARE dealer. I don't know if it's cause I'm a woman or what, but I was not impressed at all by the ARE dealer - more like a sleaze ball to me. Leer dealer was respectful, threw in things for free (after some negotiation) and when it came down to it, was cheaper than ARE with the options I wanted. I also didn't want to spend the extra time dicking around to get a better price farther away... I'm OK with shelling out a few extra for convenience at the moment.

I'll hopefully gets some pics posted tomorrow...

THank you. Sorry for the BS. I have had the opposite experience with ARE...so I'm starting to see that it comes down to the care of the installer. Would love to see pics of the topper

I *think* they said the shell/roof rack is rated for 150-2000lbs.

Here are pics. I think they did a great job matching the paint (although it can be deceiving with the MGM - depending on the light hits it). They did forget to order my keyless entry, so when I go back for that I'm going to have them re-seal/re-set the thing. It looks like it needs to be shimmied just a bit in one direction. Next step after that...removing all the leer badges

I've got a CX, love it. I'm in the same boat with the hang down on the leers. they look beautiful otherwise.

CX hasn't leaked at all, nice clean fit.

I know this is a year+ old, but want to know more about your internal frame... please. I've been looking into a way to accomplish what you have to my topper. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I went with the ARE because of the local dealer and am very happy. Have never owned a Leer, so I can't compare. But, just in case you are looking for an MGM picture:

It's actually an option from A.R.E. - it's their HD option on the CX toppers. The frame is built from double slotted extruded aluminum and sits on the bed as well as supports the posts for a rack through the top of the topper.

I've had over 650lbs. on mine without an issue. I ordered it through A.R.E. when I ordered my topper, but you could probably DIY one with some planning and work. Let me know what else you want to know.

Thanks Ace. I thought it looked factory, but with all the creative and talented members on TW, I wasn't sure. Might have to trade in my Snugtop. I have to see if this is an option on the MX model. I prefer a Hi-rise. Thanks again. Truck looks goooood

One think not mentioned, if you want pre-installed rack tracks, Leer has Thule and ARE has Yakima. The difference made the choice for the ARE since I have lots of Yakima bike, canoe, kayak mounts. Very happy with my MX.

I just put a Leer 100XQ on my Tacoma. So far I've been very pleased. I had an ARE on my 1992 truck, and it was great, however there are a bunch of youtube videos showing less then stellar quality on the newer ARE units. While not perfect, the Leer appears very well constructed.

Looking to pull the trigger on either the ARE CX evolve or Leer XR shells this spring. Very interested to hear more recommendations/experiences/feedback regarding any one of these brands. Pictures appreciated.
