The P just means portable. The 300 is going to inflate your tires much faster than the 88, and is “rated” for larger tires.

If you go to the viair website, www.viaircorp.com, they list out all the nitty gritty details.

Thanks for the website info. I think that I will go for the smaller one (88P) vs the larger one (400P). I can live with a one minute difference

Remember to multiply that by at least 4... :)

It's not just the inflation time, though. It's the duty cycle. The smaller compressor will be working harder to inflate your 285's than the 400p will, and will likely get much hotter, so you may end up needing to wait longer between each tire, too.

    Just other things to consider...

I just ordered 2 of the 88p's off Amazon. Planning on putting one in my rig and the other in the wifes work vehicle. Not too concerned about inflation speed as i am overall reliability.

If you are constantly maxing out its pressure and duty cycle, that reduces the reliability of what is an otherwise perfectly reliable compressor.

Sorta like if you are always bouncing of the rev limiter, you're going to eventually blow the motor, no matter what engine you have.

If you have stock size tires, you should be fine, though.

I got 33s on my trucks. My wifes Highlander tires are considerably smaller. I never really air down for anything so it wouldnt be constantly having to run...just using it to air up enough to get it rolling again.

Was deciding between the 88P and 300P myself. Besides duty cycle and time already mentioned, a factor for me was the quick connect hose, and gauge. Both cannot be replaced on the 88P since it's connected to the pump itself. The 300P gives me options to use a coiled hose or different inflator/gauge. At the time of purchase, the price difference was $59. $56 vs $115 on Amazon.
