Anyone also have visibility issues during the rainy season? Any fixes? I find it really irritating when I'm trying to reverse and I can't really see shit. Maybe i've become too dependent on the rear camera but hey, i'm going to use the shit out of it.

I just wipe the camera lens as I'm wiping off the rear windows before leaving in the morning. How hard is that?

That happens with all back up cams. Tossing on a bit of Plexus or other polish will help the drops blow off, but wiping is a why of life with external cams.

I would suggest sending toyota of america an email, explaining why they should have a rear camera wiper option offered on all new models with back up cameras... :mudding:

It isn't that bad. I walk past the back of the truck every time I go somewhere. I just wipe the camera with the cuff of my shirt every few days, unless I'm wearing something white.

This has been a thing since the in-car race camera was invented in the 1980s.

I find it interesting the number of folks replying to the OP "It isn't that bad, I just wipe it off every time I walk by the camera", this confirms to me and the OP that it IS that bad. I have the same problem. I think the OP was looking for anybody that has found a solution or a treatment that can lessen the amount of water clinging to the lens. I personally have not tried any waxes or glass treatments in fear it could damage the camera lens. If anybody has tried any type of treatments with success I would be interested.

perhaps even better than the camera wiper option, a camera that self cleans like they use on race car live cams found on espn tv coverage

the rear camera on my '12 tacoma is angled down a bit, and I really rarely spend extended time driving in reverse... I do live in the north east though so I do regularly use my camera in rain and snow. I would agree that a couple times the camera was caked up rendering it useless, but seldom enough to think it was poorly designed.

only solution on toyotas part I see here would be extending the plastic shroud around it just enough to protect but yet not disrupt the view

Thank you. my gripe is that the droplets build up while its raining so simply wiping it away is like trying to dry your truck in the rain. lol I appreciate the responses though

Great opportunity to get on board air. Plumb a compressor so it will blast a tiny bit of air on the camera, wiping off the water

Holy crap, it isn’t that bad and it happens on just about every vehicle, especially trucks and SUV’s. Come live in the north east when you get snow and slush all over the back of it just about everyday here in the snow belt.

Try some rainX or put a coat of wax or something on it to help the moisture to run off. Other than that there isn’t much to do besides wiping it off

Don't put a shell on your truck, you'll have to clean the rear window hatch by yourself too.

If you don’t have rear mud flaps, installing a set of goes will cut down on the splash and crap that gets kicked up on the rear of the truck when you are driving

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Hire a Midget and bungee cord him off the rear bumper to wipe the lens as required
