Add this to your personal detailer list. Sorry OP, you're catchin' lots of crap for this one.

I 'just deal with it', or use the 'Magic Mom Finger'.... you know, the one that wipes away tears, dirt, makeup, dog slobber, and anything else that shouldn't be on your face. Just a little bit-o-spit, and wipe away.

You think water drops are bad? Put your tailgate down when carrying a long load, and you are committed to only going forward until further notice. I have almost died at least 67 times trying to back up with my tailgate down. Why did Toyota even design the tailgate to go down? SAD.

My biggest problem with the backup camera is its placement on the tailgate. If the gate is down the camera is useless for backing up. Putting the camera on the fender might work better, even if the view is biased to one side. I bet a good optical engineer could figure out how to compensate for the one-sided placement.

It exists because this is the 3rd gen section and we love to rant about small issues and $140 TRD grills.

Okay, I think it's time to apply the 'mercy rule'. You know, the 10 run rule where a team's been whipped thoroughly?

If only we had an alternative to the camera... like mirrors or something. How did the world reverse before back up cams?!? Use a spotter. Someone can use hand signals to safely get you down your driveway or out of your parking spot

    You bet me to it.

First world problems. Folks that still utilize their mirrors more than their cameras/technology are a dying breed.

Haha yah man I didn’t check any of the thread, I just thought it and posted it. Hoping nobody else posted it before me.

The back up camera is nice and all but it doesn’t show you left and right... where other vehicles are actually coming from. People on this site want hitch racks and tailgate pads and this and that, “but will it block my back up camera?!!”

Nothing beats looking over your shoulder and using your mirrors to back up.

When my back up lens gets dirty I just grad a napkin out of my glove compartment for a quick wipe down.

I took a Lyft ride the other day and sat in the front. It was in a new Honda Civic. I noticed that as soon as she put her right turn blinker on, the radio display switched to a camera view from her right side mirror. There's a camera built into the housing that has a well tuned display looking back from the mirror vantage point. I also noticed that this didn't happen with the driver's side. I don't know if that's a setting, or purposeful. I could see it being either.

Would it work with water droplets?

Here's a crazy thought. If the camera is not optimal to use i.e. wet or dirty, turn your head and look to back up. Geeze we are becoming pampered. Blind spot monitoring, autonomous everything. Like your windshield wipers, use them when needed and don't when not.

Not sure how I can go on with my old truck, wind up windows and 5 speed. So hard, so hard. UGH.

Honest answer... probably better. Since the lens is much larger and not as fish-eyed, the size of droplets don't impact the view as strongly. Plus, the lens seemed to be recessed into the housing more so it is likely to be less affected.

    Just my educated guess.
