OEM Roof rack (PT278-35170) on 2016?

I'm looking to install an OEM rack on my 2016 DCSB OR. On all the parts sites, the factory roof rack (PT278-35170) says it only fits 2017+. That surprises me a little, so I'm wondering if it's correct.

Has anyone installed this exact part # on a 2016? Any issues? If not, which one should I buy instead?

(I'm currently not looking for a better rack. This is just a stopgap measure so I can make use of my Yakima cargo box for road trips with the family. Eventually I'll get around to a better one, but that's probably a couple years off)

For the record, I did make use of the Searches and the Googles before asking, but haven't found a definitive answer...

    Thanks in advance!

OEM roof rack should fit all 2nd and 3rd gens. Same exact mounting locations. If they made an update to the part the 17 version will fit your 16 fine. No changes to roofs in 3rd gens.

Be sure to silicone seal the thread mounts very well. There's been many complaints about the included washers not sealing it up and causing major leaks into the cabin.

Also be sure that the rack has enough weight capacity for your needs. I'm not sure the numbers but it's not as high as the aftermarkets.

Awesome, thanks. This is more or less what I thought, but nothing's worse than discovering a problem in the middle of the install.

Good advice. After your comment and everything else I've read, I'm going to make liberal use of silicone.

It's definitely a little under what I'll eventually get (~100 lbs or so). Right now, I just need the option of throwing my box on the roof when I've got two boys and a wife in the cab. Normally I throw all my gear in the bed (or the backseat), but the wife is more protective of her bags and jackets and such. This just gives me breathing room and a cab that's not packed full of crap on long drives.

Should fit. But to be honest if you want functionality now or down the road save a few more bucks and get a real rack. I regret not doing the same. Just my two cents.

It will fit, but for how much it costs I'd just buy a proper rack. The OEM rack is only rated for 75lbs.

Sounds like something Tweek would buy!

Had oem rack installed by dealer at delivery. Discovered my Thule Force LE cargo box will not fit. According to web sites for Thule and Yakima there is no cargo box that will fit. Looking into putting basket on top. Also discovered prone to leak into cab. Fortunately dealer resealed with no new leaks.

No leaking on mine with a self install but yeah. The rack is pretty much for looks IMO. You can get some function out of it but in the long term and the price you pay for it you are better served to save a few bucks more and get a better option.

You mean the weather strips that go in the roof gutter?

CBI bed rack and sliders, Backwoods Adventure Mods front and rear bumpers, etc. And some stickers.
Same here, took my time, followed instructions and torqued to spec, no issues. I actually use mine for attaching the awning of my RTT on that side, so mildly functional for me. Also hauled a couple bikes once when we had 5 (2 on roof, 2 on hitch rack, one thrown in the bed).

Yes. For whatever reason the Toyata part number lists them as "drip moldings" rather than gutter weather strips.

Honestly if you pay for shipping from Hawaii, which shouldn't be bad because I can roll them up and put them in a flat rate box, I'll give them to you for free.
Not sure how much they are brand new so depending on whatever the shipping would be you'd have to decide if it's cheaper.

That would be perfect... Looking at installing a RinoRack RTS track with Yakima towers and crossbars to the cab for the boats because I'm gonna dedicate the bed rack for a rooftop tent for the summer. The weather stripping will be cut to bridge the tip and tail seams of the tracks.

PM me with a way to send you some moneys for shipping???
