Well, after work today I think I'm truly ready to start throwing the SC on the engine. Probably gonna take a little drive to run the rest of the 85 - 87 octane mix that is in there from Utah out and I might find a quiet road to do some "stock" 0 - 60 pulls so I have something to compare with after the SC install.

 

I have the inertia sensors on the fenders on my '01, as I've unbolted both of them several times while working on it.

I also said the aftermarket bumper would change how it reads, but didn't say one way or the other. Probably depends on the type of impact, and I could even see it going either way dependent on the incident.

I believe ARB has done airbag crash testing based on my reading, and their bumpers have crumple zones to facilitate the airbag requirement.

You have an SG or UG right? I wish I had gotten a better feel for how much timing the ECU was pulling under high load, low RPM situations when it was N/A. It would give me a better feel for when it's prone to pinging with the SC now.

 

Yeah I have an Ultragauge, I'll look at the timing advance/retard info for stock. I'll also have a look at my fuel trims and such stock as well. Although those are usually no more than 3% at any given throttle load.

Any idea if the SG can read fuel trim data? I've been interested in that side of things but never really looked into it. I just assume when my AFR hits 11.5 at WOT it's just dumping fuel lol

 

100% guarantee it can, it's a basic OBD data PID, probably just buried in the menu of options

Me too! Honestly just the whine will at least put a smile on my face I'm sure but I'm really curious to see what it does to my ability to climb hills on the highway.

I was wondering this too. The google machine indicated it is possible through xgauge codes but when I looked closer, two things became unclear. It was not easy to find any specifically identified codes for our application and also the firmware level required of the SG. Mine is a v2, and one forum suggested v4 was required.

 

No codes will be required. Fuel trims are basic OBD data that is nonspecific to the application, any $5 scantool can read them and I'm sure it is a built in option in the SG. They are probably in there labeled as LTFT and STFT

I've looked when this came up the other day on Dan's truck. I didn't see them listed. At least not on mine but it is a little older now.

 

I flipped through the standard gauges and didn't get anything like those, I'll check out the user guides and see if they are options.

I think I stand corrected after looking at three SG manuals. They're lacking much functionality of even basic OBDII Mode-6 reading. What is this thing even useful for? It basically can reset codes and read like maybe 6 OBD PIDS. I'd get a $13 BT OBD deal from Amazon and use torque which has 100% more functionality than the SG. The UG also has full OBDII PID compatibility but it costs more than the little BT dongles.
