Are you going rack or steering box?

For her truck it's almost all "bolt on" she can use the same rack she has now.

I knew it was pretty bolt on. Didn't know how much though. The old ifs boxes are tough as hell. Don't know much about the racks.

@YotaGurlIAm really digging the rack and softopper combo. I think I commented on this before in one of the other (SD or 1st gen) threads. Might have even spoken to @eccracer104 about it.

I remember seeing this done on a third gen as well but since we both have 1st gens, I was wondering if you could answer a few questions. With the RTT on are you still able to fold the softopper forward? Or do you need to fully remove it before setting up the tent? Also, other than the clamps for the softopper, is the bed rack held onto the bedsides in any other way?

I'll be looking into a bedrack again soon and have decided that keeping my softopper would be best. So I'll need something that'll work with it.

Maybe on a long bed you'd be able to fold the topper forward, but on the short bed it's simply too tight. The internal supports hit the tent before it can folded all the way forward.

We used 3 grade 8 bolts per side. Just drilled into the lip on the bedside

Yeah even on a long bed the arc of the fold wouldn't clear the tent sadly. It's close. But no cigar. We usually just pop it off, fold it and toss it under the bed while camped. Or I just leave it on the porch if I know we'll be camping. (Sometimes it becomes a hassle to take on and off when camping and running trails)

it's nice having that added comfort of know I can cover it from the elements when not camping

Thanks for the info. Will definitely come in handy when the time comes to build one/get one made.

Easy enough to take the softopper off. Was just curious of how you use it.

Yeah, being able to cover anything in the bed is always nice.

Thanks again to both of you for all the info. It's helping me figure out what I really need/want out of my bed rack.
