Making the seats more comfortable

Before I modified mine I noticed the original bolt is tapered and isn't even gripping for the first 1/4 inch. I figure if I'm in a wreck bad enough to rip the seat out, I'm screwed anyway.

 

That's an assembly aid to assist in getting the bolt started squarely, as the seat/seat bracket assembly is rather flexible and does not align to the floor pan with any great precision.

If you examine the depth of captive nut you will find that there is full engagement of the bolt and nut--the bolt's "tapered" lower end protrudes past the nut when properly torqued...

Hate the seats in my 2015, cant find a comfortable position for any length of time....Yesterday went to the local upholstery shop, got some 1" extra dense foam and a 4" square of the same material...used the 1" stuff as a back, added the 4' up the sides about 18" long, trimmed them down with a knife , put a 1' strip midway up the back for a lumbar support....put a 1" piece on the seat and shaved the front down....put a piece of plastic wrap over the side that goes on my back, seat cover slides right over the whole thing and it stays in place....

Hoary Crap, its almost as good as the seats in my vette were...

next time the seat covers are off will snap a pic, unless there is any interest in seeing it now...without a doubt best thing I have done for comfort..really made a huge difference, actually cradles me in the seat. no side movement and lumbar is much better.....cheap 15$ worth of foam,

 

Yes, high interest! I had a 2005 Tacoma for ten years and the seat never seemed as uncomfortable as my 2015. I'm 60 now and sciatica has made it worse for me. I've had to add a seat cushion; am using an Airhawk cushion that I originally used on my bike.

Mine has washers under the front bolts put in by the previous owner. I’m glad it was done because I like a bit of support under my knees.

I see some people put spacers only under the rear bolts, there’s no way I could stand that because I’d feel like I was sliding off the front of the seat.

 

The problem is that everyone's body is different and the Tacoma has ergonomic adjustment typical of a 1960's vehicle. It's like selling a good shoe, but only in size 10

 

Back in the 60's it was terribly difficult to find any shoe in size 13. Now I have trouble finding my needed size of 16's. But of course back then I was not well over 6 feet and a hefty frame as well.

Oh SNAP! That's ingenious and with a good set of seat covers that have a little bit of oversize forgiveness to accommodate the extra foam, turns into a cockpit style seat. I'll be looking into this too.

 

I believe there was a taco on here for sale that did a seat swap from a 4th gen 4runner, along with dash, console, 4wd components. Also you can get a power lumber system that will likely increase the lumber over the manual.

 

How much lift do you have under the front? I don't hate the Seats, but don't love them either. In my old truck I could adjust the angle of the seat, and always tipped it back so I want to give it a try.

 

Someone in a 3rd Gen did a F150 cushion swap IIRC or something similar

Reviving an old thread.

I just took a 9 hour trip through the mountain passes. Surrey to Prince George, about 500 miles. Awesome drive! A bit smoky though...

My seat was super comfy the whole time and no pains of any kind.
Surprised so many folks are having issues with the seats.

I’m not a small dude by any means, 5’11” and 205. I also do sit pretty far back, making the rear seat pretty much unusable.


My nephews seemed to enjoy the seats as well!

 

I know someone already hit on it. Someone on this site once (2012ish) sold 1/2' - 3/4" nylon bushings and longer bolts the the REAR bolts .... extremely reasonable. Simple install. Installed them on '10 first and then on the '14. Absolutely a game changer.
