Where is the best place to get one (price)?

I am planning a 600+ miles dirt road trip in June... (well the trip is more than 600 miles, but dirt road is 600+)

I figured I might as well read this whole thread since I just bought my SS171HP. I had to get it as my intake hole is so exposed after my 285's did my the favor of clearancing whatever was in their way. Namely the splash guards that kept dirt water and debris flung from the tire from having a direct path into the intake.

Anyway, one of the first mods I did on my 2010 was to replace the ridiculous tiny pennant filter and convoluted routing that was the factory intake with the simpler and more direct dual VVT-i filter box off of the 2010+ FJ cruiser.

The cruiser box has that little turbo fin looking screen and an enlarged double wall chamber before entry into the dirty side of the air filter box, knowing Toyota wouldn't waste money designing something non functional I left the fin grille in place, I assumed it was only there to give the intake charge better flow by inducing spin. Which didn't make a whole lot of sense given any spin would be negated when passing through the filter. Now I understand the purpose of the fins to separate dirt and water. I figured the double walled chamber was to separate water given the boat flapper drain valve in the bottom.

So anyway... THANKS FOR YOUR POST!

I'm very surprised and a little disappointed that the FJ got so much more design consideration for offroading than even the TRD "Off-Road" Tacoma.

    :notsure:

There was just a group buy for them that ended last Friday, hopefully you got in. If not you might try talking to @ramonortiz55 and see if he can talk to the owner of the company we bought from and find out if they're willing to squeeze in a late order.

Otherwise Amazon.com had the lowest price I could find.

Cruiser outfitters might be willing to discount a bit for TW members as they're a vendor here. @cruiseroutfit ?

Irregardless, be ready to drop $500, you're doing great if you pay less than that.

I have been looking and debating upon these. Living and traveling gravel roads makes sense to have one. Had my 08 for 5 months n 4 air filters n it's winter had to see how long the filters last in the summer.

Got in on the group buy, it's sitting in the garage...

Still debating what to use for the holes, thinking 4.25" holesaw + snips or cutting disk

ARB designed them with the SC engines in mind, they flow more than enough air for a SC engine.

Even the landcruiser retrofit snorkel that's like 1/4 this size has been used with supercharged 4.0's without an issue.

Thank you for the info. Compared to the airflow design the ARB definitely look like it will flow more due to size difference

Anyone know if the snorkel is a problem in snowy conditions?

I thought I read on here that people flip the scoop backwards in snow conditions. I haven’t ran into that problem in Houston Texas yet. High water and heavy rain is fine facing forwards.

I have had mine for a year now, I used to drive an hour to work and back over two mtn passes. Never once had a problem with snow or rain it it. You will see guys saying it sucks up snow and rain and yada yada, you will see guys on youtube spraying the head with a water hose and saying....ohhh yeah see rain water will get right in there. All idiots. 90% of anything that weighs more than air (dust, water, snow, sleet, bugs) just hit the back of the head and goes straight out of the bottom of the joint.

    Installed!

Snips went like butter to cut between the 4.25" holes.

The main PITA was the inner fender removal and those stupid clips.
