Just installed these after work. Tried to get shots of certain angles that aren't readily available online for people who are interested. Cheers!

What exactly do bed stiffeners achieve?

They just maintain that 90* angle so your tailgate always opens and closes even after serious offroading/with heavy racks mounted on the bed rails, etc.

The stock composite bed isn't really great at keeping its form over the years.

    I really like these stiffeners.

Just a suggestion. You might want to hit those holes with a bit of paint or some sealant to prevent rust. I found sand and dirt behind the tail lights, so water and salt is going to find its way up there.

Also, maybe a clamp for that tailgate to prevent theft?

The front is fully formed bed. The corner is solid.

If you look at the rear, the metal stanchion that supports the end of the rear fender, bed side, and light is undercut and not fully bolted to the composite bed. This is where the stiffeners assist and sandwich everything together.

Those corner brackets or this puppy (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/front-rail-tie-down-wheel-chock-system.483012/) take the strain off of single tie down points and spreads the load out.

So, totally good to have but are needed for any bed stiffening purposes.

You're not kidding. One is too small to fit a crescent and the other only has clearance for a socket wrench. It was pretty ridiculous.

Yeah. I was thankful that my ratcheting box end fit. I was worried that the allen head might strip, but both sides went smoothly.

Does it interfere with the OEM bed extender?
3rd gen Tacoma bed extender to be exact.

yes, but you can actually mount both. somewhere around here (good luck finding it tho) there is a small writeup for mounting the extender piece. he did it by mounting on top of the stifferer, required drilling a hole or two, then running those bolts through spacers so the extender mount sits on top of the extender and isn't blocked by it. this will make the extender mounts closer to each other due to the spacers, so you'll also need to hacksaw off a corresponding length of tubing from the extenders pipes. not sure if you can visualize this but all i got time for atm...

Can you still run the factory bed mat with these?

When people start to add a lot of weight on there truck like overlanding equipment, the bed can sometimes start to spread out which is not good at all. The stiffener just adds for extra reinforcement.

I just bought a truck with the Cali bed stiffiner, it’s so annoying! I’m going to take them out and put in Total Chaos or All Pro because they are flat. Been trying to build a drawer system and the elevated Cali Stiffner eat up so much space

Update on the Caliraised bed stiffeners... I bought a set, and they took forever to arrive. Then, on installation I found that one of the brackets was fine, but the other was welded incorrectly and the angles are off, the 90 degree angle was bent over too far and welded in place with a super crappy weld and it just doesn't come close to fitting. Customer service is non-existent you can only email them and they take forever to get back to you. I had to send photos of it, after finally getting a response, but still no response on what they are going to do for me. So now I'm just going to have to pay to send them back out of pocket for a refund.

Do NOT buy from Caliraised, horrible quality control and worse customer service, you get what you pay for... Try Total Chaos or other company instead.
