Hey guys I know there were multiple threads on the 4.0l tick and couldn’t seem to find them or figure out what actually fixes it or if there was a fix. Some guys said it’s the valves some said injectors some said manifolds but I know the ticking is coming from the engine under the valve covers on both sides. Thnaks a lot sorry for making a new thread on this.

It goes away eventually on its own.

Vvti valve train. Worry about something else, like squeeky rear leafs or your blower motor chirping or your dash ratteling.

When i bought my tacoma new, secreatly i bought a dump truck with a exhaust leak.... it just looks like a tacoma.

So it won’t cause any issues? Making that noise didn’t want any parts to fail if I kept driving it like that and there isn’t any other problems with my truck leaf springs were done under recall

    Lotta guys saying otherwise.
I learned about the '4.0 Tacoma Tick' very recently on the TW Facebook group. A guy posted a video of his ticking away. Sounded like a diesel. It was bad.
10s and 10s of guys commented "nope. Sounds normal. Mine has been doing that since 30k miles. Got 180k on it now with no issues." Not a single person said it ever went away.
I was also confused at what actually causes it.

Some engines are just loud. I'm not a fan of generic, low-grade "noise" but I guess I just deal with it or minimize my time in the drive through :/

EDIT: LOL. I only saw the white part after I posted the quote. I see what you did there.
