Are you still loving the new gears? Have you wheeled with them yet?

My main reason for wanting to make the switch is off-road rather than on. In 4L, my 1st gear is too high when I need to crawl, leading to lots of clutch work. It’s pretty exhausting in the rocks. Likewise, 2nd is too high for those situations where you need speed/momentum. (Think steep, muddy hill climb). I end up bogging down and having to kick the clutch, which I don’t like doing.

Love the gears, still the best mod I've done so far. Haven't had a chance to mess around with the 4L other than in the driveway, it's been a busy few weeks.

Started fixing up this bumper mess. Utah salt sucks.

Did you ever do the Tundra brake swap? I'm looking at it and trying to figure out if the FJ wheels clear the Calipers

The weather's good and had some time to start this seat swap.

These are what I'm swapping in. VW Jetta Treks from the late 90's, big upgrade from the factory taco buckets.

    seat0.jpg

Picked up some sacrificial taco buckets for a cool 20 bucks and tore them apart for the rails.

    seat1.jpg

Too wide for the Treks so I chopped them down a bit.

    seat2.jpg

Found the height I wanted but the rails now need to be moved in for a solid attachment point so I cut the legs off.

    seat3.jpg

    seat4.jpg

Built some brackets and melted them on.

    seat5.jpg

    seat6.jpg

And... that's where I'm at for the day. More fun to come.

They are pretty sun faded, thinking about reapolstering them in black, gray and red tartan, something like this, maybe...

Seats look good. I think I'll have to cruise through the U pull n pay and see what they have for seats. I found some old CRV seats with armrests attached, might be nice to have some floor space between the seats in the single cab... and I wouldn't need to track down a center console haha

I just spent 9000 miles in the saddle over 3 weeks. The only thing I don't like about my seats are the wet okoles. Make me sweat. I found the seats comfortable enough.

Did you have bench seats before?

Wow, 9000 miles. Started with a bench, then went to taco buckets, now these. So far they feel the best, need some long seat time to really tell.

Yep across canada. BC to N.S. and back. Averaged about 7.5 hours a day if my math is right. I could wish for more creature comforts but I'm content with how the seats are. Maybe a tad bit of lumbar support, like my dads Tundy

Yes. His bench seat is now in my truck. I'm probably the only weirdo alive who thinks the regular cab bench seat is comfortable.
