This cover looks made for the second gens, imo. I love how mine looks but if I could do it again I would strongly consider a rolling hard cover too. Especially if you want to go long travel or glass bed sides. Depends how often you carry objects with the smallest dimension over 18" in your bed...

New to TW but not my first Taco. Had an 08 with an Advantage Hard Hat, 13 with a Bakflip and just picked up my 18 Taco. For you guys out there that have them, is the Diamondback worth the money?

Just ordered the tyger rolock but the directions aren’t really clear.

Does anyone have any idea how to install with the utility track?

I have the Gatortrax MX which is the exact same thing as the Retrax MX and i love it! Very little water gets in and it is super secure.

I have the Peragon on my 17 long bed Tacoma and I am happy with it. Like other retractable covers its not water proof but does pretty decent. KyleRI81 gives a great explantion of it. I however did not have to do any drilling to install mine. Used the holes the truck already had for the rail. Just remove the rails and there ya go. Almost a year with it and no real complaints. Get positive comments on it all the time. Since its metal it does get hot to the touch during summer here in NorCal but thats easily overcame. Great piece. I suggest upgrading to double sided lock rod for better security and sealing.

I bought an undercover SE and have been very happy with it as well. Got hooked up with a great discount from @eccracer104 at AutoAnything. Look up my tonneau thread for similar discussions. Choosing between solid and folding is all about trade offs and what you do regularly with your truck. Also, I wanted to avoid the higher odds of failure associated with more moving parts in the folding hard cover. Just my opinion and preference.

Love my Diamondback - used it as a work platform yesterday as I was installing a hoist on my garage ceiling.

Sold on the Diamondback. For those DB owners, Professionally installed or DIY? Any other suggestions/pearls of wisdom? i.e. where to buy - directly from Diamondback (seems like the best option) vs online dealer (prices don't seem any better).

The wife and I installed mine with no issues. Very straight forward concept. I recommend reaching out to Zach.RealTruck on the forums. He took great care of me.

I have an extang solid fold 2.0 for my 17 short bed. I always used extang for all my trucks due to the warranty and life of the covers, but I just bought a shell and I’m selling the extang now.

I went with the TruXport from Truxedo and, yes, purposely went low-end. I'm not sold on covering the bed of the truck except when I have cargo (rarely) that I wish not to get wet or wrap in tarp or plastic adding a possible "flying blindfold" when the wind finally peels it away. Fairly inexpensive (<$400 installed), we'll see how it sure holds up in car washes and Texas summers. IMG_0970.jpg

Regarding the Peragon Tonneau Cover, I want to ask was does the cover lock in position? or Is there only 2 option (fully open and fully closed)?

It basically turns your truck bed into a huge toolbox. Though I haven’t mounted my dirt bikes on top yet. I can shoot from the prone on it. My daughter likes to sit on it during taco meets. So yeah it’s not just a tonneau for my purposes. Best thing I love about it is, I don’t see a lot of them around. It’s totally worth it. Only downside is finding the right bed rack for a RTT.

The Access Original roll up tonneau is top notch. The design of the entire package is perfect. I like how the tonneau side rails mount underneath the OEM bed rails. You can still use the bed rails.

It latches on both sides in the back. Many tonneau covers only truly latch on one side. It's lightweight and is tight as a drum (and easily adjustable). Nearly water tight without a tailgate seal. In rain, a few drops come in (a little more at the car wash).

The new tarp material they are using is tough and has a nice matte appearance. And the whole set-up has a lifetime warranty. My tarp had a flaw out of the box (it got creased when the box was closed). They had a new one on my doorstep the next morning.

Its fully open or fully closed. It folds up accordion style.

    Bak MX4. My $.02:
Pros: looks (I like flush mount, matte black finish). Ease of installation (self done. Took about an hour after pre viewing install video on website). Like the fact that the tailgate can be lowered/raised with the cover down. Reasonable price at TCW. Can carry 400#, evenly distributed, though I definitely would not stand on it.

Cons: Security: A would be thief could pry it open at the tailgate with a standard screwdriver/jimmy. I have rigged a temporary battery operated grenade type screamer alarm until I can wire in a permanent switch. Here in Seattle, definitely not waterproof. I crawled into the bed and closed the tailgate on a recent sunny day and can see some light penetration areas that I will be working on. The factory seals at the front head rack are only about 50% effective. The drain tubes do a decent job. I'm guessing I can eliminate the majority of the leaks with a little patience. The need to drop the bed tracks down is a bit of downer, but not a deal breaker (keep the original screws).

Bottom line: 4 out of five stars, based on short term use.
