Liked the tune during traffic and on the city streets, missed the initial throttle response from 1.03 though. One strange thing that happened to me was when I was moving my truck up my driveway, I had 2 huge surges lurching forward. Never felt that before. I didn’t turn the wheel or anything, sounds similar to what people were experiencing with 1.03. Running 1.04 91 oct.

How much pressure applied to gas pedal on a 0-10 scale?

0, I was letting it coast up, I had my foot on the brake pedal the whole time. I have a large dip that I have to hit at an angle before my drive way, so once that’s cleared, I just let go
of the gas and coast up. Super weird!

That’s what I’m doing- SSP V2 and OVT 1.03. I haven’t wanted to mention it and ignite another SSP vs. OVT debate. The SSP convinced me to keep my Taco a year ago and has done what it was designed to do- keep the driveline in this engine’s torque band. OVT has taken this light years past that by adding more power and bringing the torque band down to usable RPM level. I love the OVT 1.03, but feel the shift points are slightly low. The SSP set at it’s “mildest” flavor complements the OVT’s torque improvements and works perfectly for me. I’m working out of town for a couple more weeks, so 1.04 will have to wait. With all the great reviews I’m reading, my SSP may finally be retired. My Taco will never be the tractor my beloved 1st generation was, but it’s getting there in baby steps.

150 miles in so far. All highway with hills and speed limit above 65 miles an hour. 1.04 is beautiful.

Throttle input required for acceleration may have increased, but the drivability is significantly improved.

The power is definitely still there – might have to use a little more skinny pedal.

My favorite improvement has to be the functionality of cruise control . If you haven’t tried it yet I suggest you do so. It’s super smooth - no searching for gears. My 3 Hour Weekly Drive just got better.

    Update:
Just finished the drive. I’m really impressed.

Maybe someone can help me. I downloaded the new Toyota Flash manager and the .hex 1.04 tune. When I selected the ECU, read it, selected the file, and then tried to write I kept receiving "Incorrect ECU selected" or something like that... Any help here?

Toyota could redeem themselves by hiring Mat, and using him and their R&D department to provide a true fix to the whole issue then pushing out a recall. Mat then gets 1% royalties of all warranty work costs. Surely someone from Toyota corporate watches this thread.

make sure you don't have the TCU selected...

Make sure you are writing the ECU file, and ensure you are writing to the P5-Canbus option (not the one that says "Gearbox")

Smoothest commute ever this morning in the 18 months I’ve owned this truck!!

Transitions from a stop and from rolling to throttle are completely seamless. Zero flaring or surging this morning and it was 32 when I left the house and colder temps always correlated to more surging on a cold start before tuned or stock

I did pick the P5-Canbus, and the correct file. Maybe I just needed to take a break. I'll try again tonight.

    Hmmm...
I’ve noticed when off-roading that if I am not giving it enough gas when going slowly over an obstacle it will want to give a little gas on its own to keep the rpms up from a stall-like feeling. Wonder if similar

Make sure the ecu syntax matches what Ecu you have on your truck EX: 04B02 or 04B03, etc. Don’t hate me if you knew this already lol

Haha I double checked that! There isn't a new PCM flash tool is there? just the Toyota Flash Manager to download?

May be a part of hill start assistance... If I am not mistaken that is built in to these trucks' tuning... I know if I start creeping up my driveway, I let it roll to a stop, after a couple of seconds it will increase the RPMs just enough and begin to crawl up on its own.

Ha! Yeah... it can be rough but not as bad as I24 headed east! That was on I65-N coming into Nashville though. I've lived on all sides of the city and I65 is about the best it gets commute-wise. Still ridiculous traffic with a city that's long outgrown it's infrastructure but whatdyagonna do?
