Yea, why I showed you that cheapie tent. It's big enough for two people to be comfortable and cheap enough that if you decide camping is not your thing you can donate to a homeless person and write it off on your taxes LOL or give to the kids to play with.

Honestly, when I used to be into it, I was more like some of these guys on here and I had all the creature comforts. The best tent I ever had was an 8'x16'. Half was enclosed and the other half was a screen room with zipped solid wall/windows. One thing I found camping is that you will almost always want to stand up in the tent. Unless you are backpacking and all it is for is sleeping you want to be as comfortable as possible. Standing in a tent is huge. Another thing I discovered was with a second room you had a place for things like your dirty ass boots and clothes. I used to throw a small tarp on the floor of the second room so I could shake it out too from time to time. A walmart cot is an excellent idea. Being on anything but the ground is key. I don't care if you buy the most technologically advanced ground mat in the world. A rock or root in your back will make you an unhappy camper quick and who wants to do all that site prep, unless you are going to be there a week. For an overnighter, you get there, set up, chill. A nice 8'x10' with a cot and good sleeping bag will make the trip more enjoyable. You can sort your supplies by use (kitchen, hygiene, clothes, etc) and put them into those plastic storage containers. Rain is the enemy. Then when you need something move it from the truck to the tent. Wanna clean up, take that container in the tent. Wanna cook, take that container to the campfire. Camping is like any other hobby and you can be as primitive or as established as your needs dictate. The more needy the more money you will spend. There are so many hacks for saving money while being comfortable.

A five gallon bucket and a cheap padded toilet seat can become a throne in the woods to make your life pleasurable. LOL That padded toilet seat is great in the winter by the way. You can rearrange the little bump stops on the seat to fit the diameter of the bucket so the seat stays on top of it. Cost, about $10 bucks total. Sure they make and sell something like this but look at the price. Not $10 bucks.

When I was younger I used to hunt a lot. Eastern Shore, Md. I was in a hunt club. Deer, goose, ducks, dove, squirrels, you name it. A lot of car camping because we only had one day to hunt. There was a time though we used to hunt goose on this farm, in the morning, then deer in the afternoon and night. We went down for a week at a time. The property owner we leased the property from would let us tap into his electric at the barn. 4 guys were staying in a teardrop camper. It was so cramped in there. I had that 8'x16' two room tent. Inside the main tent I had a folding table, with a 2 burner stove, and a light and some gear. Under the table was my potable water, and my storage containers with my clothing. I had a cot. I also had a oil filled space heater type radiator! LOL. In the other room I had another folding leg table and the rest of my containers and hunting gear. I also had my make shift toilet. Naturally you use biodegradable bags in the bucket. I would boil water and wash off. Baby wipes are ok but not for longer than 3 days.

By the 3rd day two of the guys were willing to do all the cooking and split all their booze with me to stay in the tent. My setup was nicer than their camper. This was the middle of winter on the eastern shore on the edge of a corn field. It was barely hospitable. Nothing to break the weather. I had pieced together all my stuff over the course of a couple years and bought most of it second hand. If you have the coin there is anything you need. That is if this is going to be a hobby you will really get into. And it is a great hobby. For the entire family. I totally endorse it. If I were you though and the wife was giving me the blessing to get a cap, I would go with a high version that offers more headroom, get a nice inflatable mat, a really nice sleeping bag, some storage containers and some real basic stuff like lighting, a stove, etc.

I'm sure most of these guys have told you the same thing though and they really sound like they have a great time doing this. They sound to me like they know their shit as well.

The only point I agree with everyone on is inclement weather. If it rains, it will suck to change my clothes. No room to stand in that cot/tent. Also, unless a girl is very tiny, this is only good for one person. Sex in nature is intense (in tents) hahaha see what I did there?

Now you're talking my language. Many a 5 gallon bucket has been used by me. If you cut the middle out of a lid, the larger rim feels better than just the bucket rim.

    nahh

In theory, you don't really change clothes while camping lol gotta have quality clothes that allow you do stay dry and warm even if it rains. you can still get that cot, and a pop up canopy to chill under in case of bad weather. too many options

and again... A girl, or your gf?

A girl. My "maybe or maybe not GF" would never be caught sleeping outside or on the ground or anything other than a bed.

Yeah, that's what a reply ban means. Just can't respond to that specific thread.

I've been sleeping on the ground all my young life, passed many air mattress, none resisted more than a few trips, then got a really good sleeping pad, beat those air mattress even if it is only 1.5" thick, and then last year I got a cot, and combined it with the sleeping pad. OMG!, what an improvement! I don't know why i've never done it before! totally worth it! the cot is big and heavy to carry around, but I won't trade it for anything!

My gf was a little like that before, and now she seems to really appreciate a week end in a tent. but I make sure everything is fine so she stays comfortable. I don't mind to have only the basic for me, but if she have a shitty week end, I'll have a shitty week end, and I don't want to have a shitty week end

Right, but we used to keep the padded toilet seat in the warm tent and the stank bucket out in the cold. That hole in the lid method will work but gets very dicey the first time you get your junk wedged in there! LOL

I like this style too! Real Redneck pleasures.
