I was wondering if anyone with a 2018 Trd Sport installed the GBS and activated it.

I installed it and took it to dealer to activate it but they said it’s not compatible. Something about I don’t have the dummy hood switch I have a sensor on the hood.
    Thanks

That doesn't make sense that they would tell you that.. I had a friend do the software check at the Toyota dealer he works at. He had no problems with it. I do have the installation instructions for both a prius and tacoma if you want I can forward them to you for you to reference?

Yeah not sure they told me that the menus for that option didn’t come up when they hooked it up. Do you happen to know what version software your friend used. Maybe I’ll have to try and find a copy

I do have the instructions I found online
    Thanks

I do know that some year tacomas don't need a software load, but not sure which years.

I got the same parts and got no "option setup" menu on TS.
Everything installed correctly just no way to tell it there is a GBS.
So how does the Port install these???

I installed it on my 2017 sport. No activation was necessary. I just hooked everything up according to the instructions (except the hood part since you already have the hood sensor if you have factory alarm) and then I followed the instructions to adjust the sensitivity. worked fine.

Oh so you were able to tap on the glass and alarm went off?

How high do you have the sensitivity set to?

    Thanks

yes. If I tap on window, the alarm goes off. The instructions have you start at a sensitivity setting of 6. I had to use 7 before it would respond to the window tapping.

I noticed on the toyota website back when I was configuring tacomas before I bought my 17 sport, that you could not add the glass break sensor option on sport. It's possible toyota didn't intend for it to work on a sport but it does work just fine.

I had the same concerns as you when I was researching the GBS. Here is a conversation I had with
    @trrn11500 about his install:

    Me:
    Hello.
I saw this post of your where you asking for the V2 install instructions. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2017-glass-breakage-sensor-v2-instal-instructions.488709/

I'm just wondering where you purchased the V2 harness, what the part number was and wether or not the GBS had to be activated by the dealer (Toyota TIS Techstream computer). I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport with factory alarm but no GBS. In doing my own research it seems that if you already have an alarm, the V2 harness (or V2 alarm kit) is needed. If you have no factory alarm, the V5 kit/harness is needed. Both kits appear to have the same part number, PT398-35160, but I don't know if the kit will contain both harnesses.

trrn11500: you most likely already have a factory alarm. Is this true?
trrn11500: Sorry just reread and you do have it. I found it very confusing too at the time but eventually figured it out.

Just get the smaller of the two harnesses that allows you to hook up the glass breaking sensor. I think it was the V2. I looked for the best price online and they did range from a half way decent price to a lot.

I think I found it on Amazon for the best price. I remember at the time asking for information and getting conflicting information. I eventually put my arms up and took a chance and I ordered the V2 and it worked perfect.

What was funny was that at one time I called the dealer and they kind of gave me the runaround about the parts number. But said they would install it for around 3-400 bucks.

Crazy right? So I think I spent in the low 100’s. I remember it being and easy install and you don’t have to bring it in for tech stream to program it because it is already in with the original factory alarm. You just don’t have that harness and gbs

I hope it works and I tried not to be too confusing. Message me later after you install. You will be amazed how easy. Good luck.

I was able to find the part that I ordered. The above pic shows a small piece for a hood sensor that has a small loop on it. You will not need that part because it is already installed with the factory alarm. I went crazy looking to install it and eventually figured it out that it was not needed. The price was actually in the mid 100’s area.
