As to be expected with 275k, my 3RZ is a very loud engine. Not talking intake or exhaust, but mechanically. It has no knocking or ticking, but sounds almost hollow inside. It runs really smooth, but makes quite a bit more noise than other motors I've seen with around the same mileage. Has this happened to any of you guys? What have you done to quieten them down?

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Mines not deafening but if the hood is up it is louder than the exhaust or the supercharger. Just the nature of an engine with 3 internally driven chains and double overhead cams with gear drive. I have found that if you let the idler pulleys go too long they make some horrible hollow sounds though so it may be time for an AC idler or steering idler in your case.
