Correct TPMS?

About to order TPMS sensors for my 2013 Tacoma for my new alloy wheels. Just hoping somebody can confirm these are the correct ones. Thank you!

They'll work, Toyota (Denso) only really has 2 TPMS sensors, one for alloy stock wheels and one for steel stock wheels the difference being the angle of the sensor in relation to the valve stem.

That said if you have aftermarket wheels it's anyones guess which kind will fit.

That said again, the installing shop can (and will generally) turn the sensor around "backwards" and they work just as well.

 

I have always wonder how can you tell how old they are? Since your buying something with a battery in it. How do you know you aren’t buying something that sat on the shelf for 5 yrs. do they have a battery date on the side?

 

The do have codes stamped into the bodies, sometimes there's a QR code printed on it, I don't remember if the date is in a standard 'date' format or if it's hidden in a number someway but I know there is a way to find the age.

That is a very real concern, knowing the date of manufacture. TPMS batteries are good for about 7 years average.

 

I just contacted the seller, we will see what they say. But that is certainly a concern.

 

The aftermarket ones I bought (...ITI, I think) didn't quite make it to 5 years. The vendor even made a point of stating in the ad that they didn't "activate" them until they were ordered, which given that they're a sealed unit would pretty much have to be BS.

When the light came on with tires properly inflated and wouldn't reset, my local tire shop replaced all 4 and re-programmed for ~$160. Easier than ordering some, then finding someone to install them, and maybe someone else to program them in.

 

I got all 4 TPMS for my 2014 I could sell you for cheaper if you are interested.

After doing a little searching, I saw that tech stream can verify if the batteries are in good shape, so If you have someone installed these,it may be a good idea to see if they can check them first before they mount them.

I also saw they have a sleep mode, that is to preserve battery life while sitting on a shelf or when the vehicle is not in motion for a period of time.

 

depends on how much cheaper since they are already 4 years old

 

I feel like the TPMS sensors on my '08 have always been hit or miss in that sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Is there a shelf life for these ? Maybe the batteries be changed out every couple of years?

For the life of the truck I've never had a consistent sensor
