Hey I figured I’ll ask here since I notice most of the member on this thread is around my area. Which local 4x4 shop do you guys recommend going to? Buying my lift kit and was told to avoid the stealership. Portland area!

Dealers will help you and you they back it up with factory trained technicians. It does cost a lot for the hockey puck and rear leveling kit.
I had that on my first 17 Tacoma and it off road pretty well. I wouldn't do it again after having the Ikon system on my new truck.
There is a guy that owns superior offroad in Gresham that can hook you up with quality components and he is very skilled. His name is Houston, I've had him work on my new truck and I have been very happy with him and his prices. You can Google his business to get his number.
    Hope that helps.

    Hey,
Anyone want to meet up in estacada Sunday morning? I am meeting up with a guy I met there a couple months ago. He's rolling a jeep wrangler. Planning on meeting up at the end of town on 224 around 9 am. Going to Ladee flats to exercise my Hooligan! Informal meet up, taking my wife out in our truck, shes on the title but has never enjoyed the excitement of feeling like our 40 grand truck could be rolling down the hill sideways.
Let me know and I can pm you my phone number to meet up.

Try asking in the FB group about putting in for a meet at Gearhead Garage. Seems to be the thing to do these days

First time I've seen someone advocate for a dealer. Factory trained usually means just on factory parts, not suspension specialists. They usually put on whatever is cheapest to get the job done without thinking of the long term or how the customer might use it.
The 'hockey puck' lift is either a body lift (can cause damage to the cab and body mounts, doesn't add any suspension travel) or a spacer lift (results in a very harsh ride, and also harmful preload that can lead to failure if you push your suspension too hard).
If you get past that, the dealer will probably put on a low quality set of shocks and struts, that are OK for road but will fade if pushed at all.

The hockey puck reference pretty much matches up with your statements, I work for a Toyota dealer and if what you can afford is a 350 revtech with a spacer for a grand installed, then it's a good option for the mall crawler and occasional weekends on rough gravel roads.
That's why I said I wouldn't do that option again.
No change meaning or tone with the larger text, on my phone and just noticed it.
Cheers, much better off to buy quality components to start with from a good aftermarket shop.
Cheers and good luck with your quest.

What's up guys! New TW member here. Do you any of you have recommendations for 4x4 shops in the beaverton area? I saw that someone asked about shops in the Portland area but I figured I'd see if there's any that are closer to me. I'm looking to lift my truck in the near future

If you are up to doing it yourself and saving some $$ and getting some knowledge/skills under your belt, I highly recommend Gearhead Garage in Tigard. It is a DIY Garage where you can rent a lift and tools. Depending on what you purchase and your mechanical ability, or how many beers you bring for friends it can generally be done in a few hours.

I would love to get some knowledge and experience under my belt. Do they have people there with experience who can help? I know nothing about trucks and have never worked on one before.

The owner Mike is knowledgeable but not necessarily there to help you install, it is more of a DIY. If you haven't joined us on Facebook yet , that is where most of our members are at. Post up a introduction and a little of what you have planned to install, and you may be able to get some help from other members. Do some research on what is needed to do your install, that way you are informed on what needs to happen. It is your truck after all ;)

With all of that said, if you are looking for someone else to do it for you, I would recommend Vince with Mach1 Motorsports. Tell him Cody from PNW Expedition sent you and what you are looking to do. If you don't have parts already he is also a great source. He is located in Hillsboro off of WitchHazel. (Brookwood/TV Hwy)

Ok sounds good. I've been trying to do as much research as I can. I've been on TW everyday for the past week or so haha. Thanks for the help! I'll definitely give Vince and let him know you sent me
