Check charging system warning message

I have a combination "check charging system" and "check engine" warning lights on my 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport v6. Manual says to pull over immediately and call dealer which I didn't do yet. Anyone have experience or info about this situation?

 

With the truck running or just the ignition on and the motor off?

 

Ignition on, motor off; Team Toyota had it towed in this morning so will find out what's wrong.

 

Pretty sure they all say that with the engine off and ignition on...

 

Mine does that all the time, it even did it on the showroom floor. It's designed that way to prevent you from running down the battery. Only need to worry if these messages show up while the engine is on.

That is normal, you would have an issue if it did this with the engine running.

 

At least he will get some free coffee and maybe a donut out of the ordeal lol

 

Yup, totally normal when in accessory mode with engine off, or at least I assumed that. But, let us know if its not!

 

mine does, I asked about it when I bought the truck, they said it was normal

 

Even an old car with dummy lights will be lit up until you start it.

I sure hope he wasn’t driving with the motor off haha

 

Mine does same, even if you have just the radio on in 10-15 minutes it turns off automatically to protect the battery.

 

LOL this has got to be a joke!
I feel bad for the tech that will need to tell you your mistake in a nice way.

 

The tech gets to write comments on back of the work order. The service writer gets the privledge of talking to the customer. I'm glad the customer never sees some of the comments I write.

 

I hope they don't end up charging you for the tow, due to an invalid claim.

 

Yes OP totally normal. You should of checked back here before the tow showed up. I’m surprised Toyota didn’t ask you a few basic questions on the phone to verify this.

I’m surprised in this day and age they haven’t done a work around on this yet. So many people used to bring their cars back in with this concern thinking something was wrong. Although most will only show a battery warning and a cel light after a few seconds.

 

Yes! All of the replies are correct, wish they'd been 12 hours earlier. Fact is the Tech did call me to explain courteously while withholding down the laughter that must have been going on in the shop. Thanks, guys and the tow was free; they call it "towing for dummies!"
