Wheel ID, and removing paint from them.

    My 2010 Prerunner came with these wheels installed. The previous owner said the truck originally came with steel wheels, so he got these.

    I'm pretty sure they're Tacoma wheels from an earlier year, but could someone make a more positive ID?

    The paint on them is coming off here and there, so I want to strip them or repaint them. I tried removing the stuff with a heat gun, but it didn't have any effect. The thing that works best is my thumb nail, but that's going to be a mighty long row to hoe! Any suggestions?

    Yes they are first gen Tacoma wheels. Just scuff em up with sand paper real good, then prime and paint.

    Thanks, guys. I found them on some website listed as for the '04 Tacoma. This is it, shank style lug nuts and all.

    Taco.jpg I decided to try paint stripper on the wheels, and I'm happy to say that it works pretty good.

    I bought some crud in a spray can at Home Depot, and tried it out. It stripped the small test area PDQ, so I tried it on a whole wheel, and it took off most of the paint. The can was only good for three wheels, so I'm going to get some more tomorrow and finish up. Here's what I got from one application:
