hey, have you guys seen the ARB Jack? it looks like a cool, expensive alternative to a hi-lift.

my hi-lift is disabled on account of bent pins which cost like $20 for replacement. everytime the hi-lift comes out it's a coin flip for life and limb. maybe ARB is worth the cost? i'm interested.

How did you bend the pins?

Got to make sure they’re fully engaged before lifting. Mine is so full of dirt I have to clean the pins every time I use it. A little wd40 does the trick.

I also learned you don’t want to spray a bunch of lube on there. It might make it work great at first but then the grease just attracts and retains a ton of debris.

And as far as your question... I’d stick with hilift personally. Proven design.

If you're gonna spend that kind of money, shouldn't it say King on it?

I’ve heard from @jberry813 and can confirm that to pee on it is in fact the best for lubing a stuck hilift. Works like a charm

Pin was definitely stuck. If it’s not lubed right before use, just have something handy (wrench, tire iron) to tap it so the stuck pin slides. Has to be done while in the lift position of course. Never release until the other pin engages, or it will slide like yours did. I usually carry some WD40 and spray it on right before use. I also like to keep it outside, and would have trouble doing that with a really expensive jack.

Hi lifts are awesome when used properly. Mine’s about 10 years old and probably needs new springs. But it still works great.

In high school, we used to jack up the back end of my buddy’s FJ40, then push it off to the side to get him unstuck. Not recommended for anyone other than strong 17 year olds with cat-like reflexes.

Not sure if the jack covers would help to keep the dust out when it’s properly lubed.

    Yikes. Sketchy.

I’ve also seen the jack “run away” where the handle starts swinging on it’s own and it lowers itself. Also very sketch. Best thing to do at that point is stand back and watch or your likely to get smacked

regular interval lube job at the pins/mechanisms with some WD40 or similar will keep the Hi-Lift much happy for long time. Keep the Hi-Lift, it's proven and it's versatile when used right and maintained.

this is helpful, thanks. i recall banging on it to get the pin to release and drop to the next notch but i didn't lube and maybe didn't bang hard enough. i eventually got fed up and cranked it down which led to slippage. i'm glad i had the tool as i would have been stuck without it. i guess i'm just rocking the learning curve.
