So Huber the company behind advantech should have the glue available in Canada sometime soon. And they made a longer tip applicator gun for sheeting. The guys used it in the build in the link I posted earlier and ducking loved it

Its neat for sure, the ownrr/creator gets into arguments on his fb page too, I know a few who got them, waiting to see what they think, being able to flush cut like that's pretty nice.

Well, poured the concrete for one sections of the countertops. Learned a good amount too lol. Like multilayer the drop cloth! And just tape plastic sheeting over the cabinet faces for any "splashes".

Its not totally done as Im waiting for it to dry more before troweling it smoother

The only real "hard" part so far was actually mixing the concrete. Started out with how I'd normally mix it which was dump the concrete into whatever then add water then mix. Well that didnt quite work the best for this stuff. The first 30lb or so of concrete ended up being really dry (but still worked) and the next 30lb ended up not being totally mixed. Then the next bucketful was way to watery. But after that I figured things out....add water first, then the sand mix, mix it all up leaving it "soupy", then add the "liquicrete" stuff and slowly add it in.

The rest of the countertop should be a lot quicker and easier to do now that Ive sort of got a system down. I did do this section by myself but for the larger section Ill get help at least with the mixing and pouring portion.

Im actually using a powered mixer. As I found out its really just a matter of mixing it in the right order. Im doing it in 5 gallon buckets (mix outside, carry inside) and splitting a 60 pound bag between the two. At first i just dumped everything in, added water, and then tried to mix and it just wouldnt mix well. The additive stuff is a thick, fiber material (to strength the sand mix) so it would like pack down in the bottom of the buckets and not want to mix. But i started adding water first (like 2-3 inches in the bottom of the bucket) then the sand mix. Mixed that all really well to a soupy consistency and then added the additive stuff. Didnt have much trouble mixing it doing that way.

They dont recommend trying to hand mix it or using a normal concrete mixer

The like drum mixers for doing multiple bags at once type things. The mixer i got just looks like a drill with a paddle on it. Its more used for mortar/grout but the rental guy also said it would work just fine for the sand mixes of concrete

It was the company who says not to use the drum mixers. Might be a worry about not completely mixing in their additive is why.

Sounds like the thing then! Want to say the rental guy said then one i got could be used for taping mud, paint, mortar, grout, ect. Pretty much anything not super thick and long as it didnt have large particulates in it..

This is definitely a process though so be prepared lol. However long it takes to remove countertops, the setup is pretty easy, pouring isnt bad bad, but then they want you to wait 3-5 days before touching it. So then you can remove the forms and start sanding it. Then its more waiting as they say you really want to wait at least 7 days before staining or sealing the concrete.

Our current goal is just have it all poured by next weekend to let it dry. We wont get to even considering the staining part till mid May due to other things going on so itll be nice and dry by then

Yup im sure. Just like any concrete work really. Thankfully every review Ive read for the said they just followed the 3 day without touching it, then at least 7 days before staining and havent had nay problems.

But we will see how this goes lol

I went with the Zcountertop Solutions stuff.
    https://www.concretecountertopsolutions.com/

Mostly just for the cost. I used the "liquicrete" additive and bought the sand mix locally to help save shipping. Was still ~$200 in shipping for everything (all the tools, sanding stuff, forms, ect). I bought their forms and everything though

I definitely get the more "budget DIY" feel from their stuff but at the same times its all pretty basic and easy to use too. We mostly picked it for the same reason...we plan to sell in the near future but hated our current countertops (tiles)

I finally changed out the Door of Shame. This was a cheap, hollow core door that was on there when I bought the house. I took the door off to cut a pet door a few months ago and, as you can see, was not paying attention. Ooops.

So I found a better door that is a pretty close match to the other, original doors in the house and installed it. I also got some door trim that has a detail similar to the cabinets in the kitchen. Bit of work to get everything square, flush then fill, sand, prime, paint and paint but it all came out pretty good.
