The local locksmith I went to was able to clear the previous vehicle off the card and reprogram it for my vehicle. The battery was dead when I went there, but they temporarily used a smaller 3v battery to program it. It was way cheaper than what the dealer wanted too.

Did you have to tell him anything specific or did he know how to do it right away? I called a few guys and they seemed like they either had no clue or said used keys can't be reprogrammed.

**edit** found one guy who said he can do it but its $180...seems pricey

That is pricey. They are always skeptical when you bring a Lexus key that they've never seen before and ask them to program it to a Toyota. I can see their minds implode in front of me. With all the knowledge from this post it helped me go in there with confidence about the situation. All you are doing is adding a third key. They just need the correct equipment. I think I paid $85 to have mine done.

Yeah I'll check a few other places. So far 4/6 places said it's impossible can't be done. Dealer said they dont know how to do that and the one guy said $180.

Just an update. I was able to get a dealer to reprogram a used key off eBay for me for $70. It took me calling about 8 different lock smith and 3 dealerships that said it cant be done but finally got it lol... I finally found a good service department that took the time to get it figured out. Sat there for about 4 hours over two trips for them to figure it out =/ but it's done.

If you live in South louisiana and plan to do this, PM me. I can shoot you the dealer and service rep name that was able to do.

It's apparently much easier to program an unused key so I'd just recommend going that route. I was able to snag a used one on eBay for 120 but for the wasted time and head ache...wasnt worth the savings lol.

Is there any way to make this even thinner? I was thinking about installing it between my phone case and phone, and that way I only have to grab one thing when I leave the house

I dont think so but it fit pretty good in one of these that you stick on the back of your phone case. You even have room for your license and 1 more credit card...at least in the one they had at the dealer when I was getting my key cut. It's pretty generic so I'm sure size vary on how much u can fit in it. I was thinking of given it s try to not carry a wallet around any more.

Little concerned with the one stop shop thief of my phone, car key, ID and credit card in one swap lol.

My Card Key along with the Emergency Back up Key and extra Battery Arrived Today. I had the Key cut from where I purchased the parts, But need to get to a locksmith so they can program the card key. I live in the same area as @Victory and he was happy to hook me up with a locksmith. Thanks again OP!! :fistbump:

Got my dealer to program it. They had never seen or heard of this before but they really liked it.

@CBoy808 did them for me. The dimensions I gave him we’re just a tiny bit undersized but it looks ok still.

Does anyone else with the Lexus card key have issues with the doors not unlocking consistently? It seems like it works perfect for a while, then doesn't for a while, back and forth. Sometimes I'll have to grab the door handle 2-3 times to get it to unlock. 2 things I can think of: 1. get a new battery for the card key, and 2. I keep the card key in my metal money clip with cash and cards, so maybe the metal is blocking the signal.

Somewhat similar here. For me it just appears random, although only takes a second try. Antecodotally, it seems like being in my back pocket just reduces the range a bit for me.

I just did the passenger smart door mod by Victory, and did some quick non-scientific testing. For me, in free air, standard FOB and lexus key had to be within about 3 ft to work.

Doesn't seem like much to me...
