I have a 2017 tacoma sr5 v6 2wd, after the 10000 mile first oil change i got under it to check that everything was ok and i was surpriced to see what it look like an oil leak where the transmission and engine meet to me it looks like a rear main seal leak wish is crazy do to that it only had 10000 miles took it to the dealer and they clean it and told me some crap about the oil pan bolts being losse and that they had tighten them that din't make any sence to me, and they told me to watch it and bring it back if it keeps leaking well gues what at my 15000 mile maitenance is still leaking and now the oil pan is wet too wish was not before took it to a different dealer because i moved and they told me the same crap we will clean it and you watch it. Imediately i called toyota headquater and open a case. Am i the only one with this problem? because i haven't seen anything like this on the forums.

It's sweating and its not truly leaking by dealership standards. Building a good reputation with a dealer pays off with cases like this. But Toyota typically won't endorse repairs on cases like this.

Keeping calm and patient will help a lot here.

Do you need to know, or care?
In my opinion it's a bad seal and should be replaced under warranty. Sweating or leaking, it shouldn't be doing that. A leak is a leak.

Welcome to the forum. Looks like the oil pan gasket from the pictures. Clean it with a good degreaser, torque the pan bolts your self and monitor it for awhile. Dealers aren’t much help in these cases. Good luck.

Nonsense....Sweating or Leaking, it's unacceptable and the OP did the right thing calling HQ. if it's like that at 10k, I can only imagine what it will be like in 70k.

OP, keep us up to date on the response!!!

Purchasing agent for Toyota Corp. needs to pay an extra 10 cents and start buying better quality gaskets for the Tacoma.

What happened with this? My 16 may be leaking from the rear main seal as well. At the dealer now

Same thing happened to me! I’m at 80000. I took it in for service new brakes oil change literally 24 hours later i noticed the oil on the garage floor. Service technicians thought it was coming out of the pan they didn’t even clean it or run the truck while it was up on the rack. Your exact same scenario.... déjà vu. I cleaned it up with some degreaser let the truck run to operating temperature and that’s how I found the leak. Looks like the tranny’s gonna have to come out and a few other pieces to access... very costly repair! Shame on Toyota these engines used to be able to get 200,000 miles easy no issue. Should’ve known the 2016 engine revamp was definitely not in the consumers favor.

It’s Not the pan. The wind while driving creates a vortex and sprays the oil everywhere. It just gets caught on the upper lip of the pan to give you the impression it’s a pan leak. Clean the oil off, run the truck, watch for drips. Whatever that little plastic clip is for is where the oil comes out

I'm betting on it was originally a defective rear main seal leak, but now after some idiot over torqued the oil pan bolts squeezing the gasket out, it's a rear seal leak and an oil pan leak.

Do you know why McDonald's has the employees they got and dealerships have the ones they got?
    McDonald's got first choice.

Did you go 10,000 miles on the oil before changing it? Did I read that correctly?

I purchased one of these on Amazon to replace the cheap plastic piece of junk, fingers crossed this fixes the problem........I installed this today drove probably 10 miles and so far dry but time will tell I guess

Did that Amazon part stop your oil leak? I went to the dealership yesterday to get new Predator Step Boards and they told me that my 2017 had a small oil leak on the side of the engine. I couldn't stay any longer so I'll go back next week for a ($160) diagnostic. So far seems like a very small leak since there are just a few drops on my garage floor.
