I just wanted to show some pictures of how I enlarged the little storage boxes in each side of the bed...no need to buy that expensive box they sell. so someone could do it too .the existing box just cut at the botton an pre drill the holes for the screws ,secure them with bolts without installing then mount the faceplate ,no adjusting yet, feed the new extention bo x from botton so the bolts go thru the holes and secure with more nuts. hope someone do it and save a lot of money . I'll be working with the locks soon . I also have a bed cover so....is secure now...26994567_10156037066082288_689426728_n.jpg 26856822_10156037066422288_1417043311_n.jpg 26994493_10156037065387288_740904543_n.jpg 26913827_10156037065622288_1366453059_n.jpg 26940759_10156037066277288_2034766363_n.jpg 26856822_10156037066422288_1417043311_n.jpg forgot to say buy $9 storage box from home depot, the ones with lid atached and cut the ends for each side total spent $12 and a little ingenuity. Nice idea. I’d like some more space back there also.
How strong do you think it is? If I’m making mine bigger it will be filled with more stuff and so heavier. I know you said there are some nuts and bolts involved, unless you mean the ones that attach to the truck around the lid. Is that duct tape on the bottom?

I like the idea and I’m interested in building something similar

the duck tape was to seal the seam but put caulking all over inside and out. I think is tough,,,the reason I did not make bigger is 'cos I was trying first to put everything from the top but...impossible. but yeah you can make it deeper this one is like 13" .
now the bolts, I could not feed from top took apart and placed the bolts and secure'em with nuts so when I put the piece from the botton the bolt were there and then just secure'em on top with more bolts. .........

Has anyone else tried making this? I tried finding the storage box but couldn't find anything like this at home depot.

Nice! Now I only have to put a false bottom in the cubby for those trips I take into south of the border! :bananadance:

No- really, those are pretty nice and a great idea for recovery straps, etc.
