I have been kicking around different ways of storing 30-60 gallons of gasoline for months now. I really need to decide on something. I’ve thought from anything to regular gas cans to large tanks on a jet ski trailer. The tanks with the hand crank pumps would be perfect but have very bad reviews.

Any ideas? If you store gas, what is your set up?

    Thanks for suggestions in advance.

First question is what is it needed for and why?

I keep a tank like this for diesel: http://www.tscstores.com/DELTA-50-GALLON-FUEL-TANK-P46684.aspx
I have a harbor freight 12v electric pump I use with it. Problem is when you use gasoline that same type of pump is about 3x the cost so that becomes very expensive.

The second issue with gasoline is the new ethanol gas goes funky quick so you then need to put stabilizer in pretty much at every fill unless you are draining and replenishing the tank every month or two at most.

    Edit
I almost forgot I also have this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Scepter...Pump-and-10-ft-Long-Fuel-Hose-06792/302683250
I keep mine suspended in my shed so it works by gravity. If you have to hand pump it it gets annoying real quick. I use this for my lawn tractor but the fuel gets old by end of summer.

This is something to think about. I can strap it to the dolly and roll it on the trailer to take it to town and fill it.

I want to have plenty of gas to run the generators. Ideally I’d keep about 3 Days worth on hand. But feel I need at least 2 days worth. Power has only gone out 3 times so far this year but only once did I need the generator. If I got something good enough I could keep the gas rotated out by filling the truck up with it and replacing the gas about every 3 months.

The 50 gallon steel tank is not a dolly move unless empty. I need my Kubota loader to unload it once full and it barely lifts it.

Now the flo and go is moveable by one person but like I said it sucks to hand pump it constantly. I have a strap winch mounted high in my shed and I suspend it so I basically pump it once or twice to get it moving get and the rest is a slow gravity feed.

Here is my setup. I couldn’t find pics from building it so I took these just now. I built a platform with fork pockets to move with my tractor or it can be lifted by my bucket with the chains / hoop that goes around the tank. Small 12v diesel pump from HF was $99 on sale but the gasoline version is way more expensive.

That’s a nice set up. How many gallons is the tank? Also how big is your tractor? I have a small B series Kubota with clamp on forks. Not sure it could lift to much.

50 gal like I linked a few posts above. I have a B1750. It has an newer loader but it barely lifts the tank full.

Is this just for the generator? Asking because Ive toyed around with converting my little 5500 watt to propane, which can be stored almost indefinately compared to the few months that gasoline remains viable. Carb conversion kits are relatively inexpensive.

It is just for the generator. I am only planning to use it else where to keep it fresh. I wasn’t aware their was a way to convert it to propane. This is one of generators I have that runs the house and the one I’m most concerned about.

A 50 or 55 gallon barrel can be moved easily if you have a good barrel dolly and a concrete path.

I use 30 and 50 gallon plastic drums.
30s are nice because they are significantly lighter, depending on how much gas you use.

To transport drums, put them on the truck bed or a trailer. When you decide what you are going to use to transport, build a dolly with locking castors the same height as the transporter vehicle. Then you can easily slide the drums off the vehicle onto the dolly, and then move them around on the dolly.

    One dolly for each drum.

Cheapest electric gasoline rated fuel pump (not homemade) I found is:
    https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/gpi-ez-8-fuel-pump-1-10-hp-3-4-in-inlet?cm_vc=-10005
Make sure you add a water block type fuel filter

ya it's only what about 300 pounds? You can get a dolly that you can lean back and 500 pound drums are fairly easy to move around.
