    That bad huh...?

    Moab is;

    Mid 30's to 40's at night. Mid 70's daytime. Very dry. Sunny until today ....partly cloudy.

    We leave in the morning.

    Damn.

    Took over 300 pictures (so far)

    My internal clock is stuck in "at home" mode. 4+ hours until day break here and I'm already up, showered, dressed, and ready to roll out. We'll leave Moab this morning right after breakfast. Trucks packed and gassed. We'll take a round-about route from here to Ft. Riley Kansas next. I was never stationed there. 2 of our travelling partners were in the 1980's after I left the Army. We'll do some sight seeing there, then start wandering home. All goes according to plan, home a week from today. I talked to my daughter last night. She's baby sitting our dogs and parrots. My oldest bird, Jeni, when let out of her cage, goes directly to a perch that looks out the kitchen window towards the driveway. She just sits there and looks out and calls my name. She's missing me.

    We should make Ft Riley around lunch time today. We'll stay a couple days, then on the Little Rock Arkansas to visit another old Army buddy. Then home.

    It was decided that Sandy would pilot the Tacoma today while I pressed my face against the window for sight-seeing purposes.

    I hope my heart is strong enough for what is about to transpire.

    Junction City Kansas is all I thought it would be.....and less. Typical Army installation town. Tatoo parlors and pawn shops.

    We'll be starting home a little sooner than anticipated. Probably leave later on today. A very close friend of the family called last night. Her husband found out he had lung cancer and went out to their motor home (parked in the driveway) and put a gun to his head and ended his life. He was just 40 years old.

    Hate to hear that for the family and all his friends. Cancer is never fun for anyone and is a horrible disease. Also hate that this is the way he decided to cope with the news and take that way out, for the people in his life's sake.

    It's easy for me to say just dig your heels in and fight cancer. 2 brushes with it, and both times I had very treatable forms. Stage 4 lung isn't easy. Some people prefer to go down fighting. Others just want the fight to be quick and painless.

    Hard to put a rational spin on an irrational act.

    Dave leaves a beautiful wife, a 14 year old daughter and his mother and father. And some friends that just can't quite grasp what happened.
