Cops came while I was in the store. One lady is crying to the cop lady lol. Pretty sure she’s the one who hit the young Asian girl. I want to leave but I also want to sit in the truck and listen

So the 2nd gens had some issues with the ring gear teeth breaking under load. And am I remembering correctly that You had vid of your stock ring gear going bad? And then you went to the ECGS Cryo, and now this one went bad?
Or am I thinking of a different vid?

It's the 8.0's with the GE locker. The gears are thinner or something.

And it was Jimbo's video. :pout:

Precursor this may be long but @JimboAnz recent ECGS failure had me thinking about this. I have seen quite a few of the guys with the e-locker have stripped ring gears from ECGS. This is not a knock against ECGS either. But usually when I saw failures like this it was from shock loading the diff. like in drag racing or in off-roading lots of wheel hop. The e-locker only has an 8" ring gear compared to the non e-locker with 8.5". When upgrading to a lower gear ratio this means the " of teeth on an e-locker the teeth are smaller throughout the tooth. This can create a "weaker" ring gear but doesn't necessarily mean it will be weaker. The GM 8.5" 10 bolt like what is in the F-body cars is laughed at because of it's weakness but I have seen them built and hold some pretty heavy hitters at the drag strip which the torque loading on them is far greater than what I would assume is going on with off-roading our truck. My though with all this is there are a very small # of manufacturers for upgraded ring and pinions for the yotas as compared to the big 3 and at different levels of quality and strength. I am thinking with seeing the way the teeth peel at the root if it is a casting or heat treat issue inherently with the gears that are available for our trucks. Also since there is a limited # of manufacturers it creates a very small pool to try a different route. I have used ECGS since they opened from everything from stock rebuild kits to performance gear sets and never had an issue with them it could just be a supplier issue it happens. We need a viable "stronger" alternative to what we currently have. I am thinking I may take a trip down there this week and talk it over with them and see if they have an example of a failure for me to examine and try and get something better going that what is currently fielded.
