Dude, 0w20 is full syn only. They don't make a dino 0w20. You must use it cause that's all they make in that spec. Whether or not you use it every other time or whatever...good luck.

I use 100% synthetic AMSOil 5W-30. No problem.

The requirement is for a GF-5 oil. Practically speaking, that is a synthetic.

I tried corn oil. Olive oil is a bit better.

0W-20 goes 10K. 5W-30 goes 5K. Simple. What he meant warranty wise was a viscosity other than one of the two called for. You cannot get 0W-20 in non synthetic.
You will not save money no matter what you do.

    Alternative science?

Edit - It's generally true that an equivalent grade 5w30 will lubricate better than a 0w20. The issue is that the engine and more importantly it's seal's, is engineered for a 0w20 GF-5. I'll stick with that.

No no no no no. That is what your oil FILTER is for. If you use a decent filter with correct dirt holding capacity ( like the OEM filter has ) then your oil circulating around in your engine is as clean at 10K as it was at 1K.
Why you have to change dino oil at 5K is the additive package in the oil wears out, not the oil. Synthetic is good for 10K easy, but the filter only has 10K worth of dirt holding capacity on average before the pressure differential between the inlet and outlet is enough to allow the filter to bypass. THEN you get dirty oil circulating around in there. But what do I know....

I’ve been running 0w20 Royal Purple with Toyota OEM filters, since 3k miles in both my 17 4runner and 17 Tacoma and change it every 8k.

5W-30 is available in both synthetic and dino types. I was speaking of dino, as it is cheaper and he wanted to save money. 0W-20 is synthetic only. Synthetic, no matter the viscosity, lasts much longer.

Synthetic is better and these trucks were made for it. I use Mobil1 0w-20 and usually a wix xp filter every 5k. I only pay about $60-70ish for the stuff and change it myself. I don't see the big deal here.
