Just finished the transfer case and front diff. Did not see any reason to pull the skid plate. Used a 1 pint suction gun to fill the front diff. Used the quart bottles with a 6 inch hose to fill the transfer case. Filled both with Mobile 1 75w-90 synthetic. Beer time again!

Not much on mods - Leer 180, TRD wheels, Mobtown sliders, rear hitch, helper springs on the rear
Dumb question, post again - Is there a reason why Toyota started specifying LF 75W, part # 0888581080 gear oil for the 3rd Gen Tacoma transfer case - versus 75-90W - which was in use up until the 2015 model year?

I've used the Valvoline as well as the Walmart brand you can see a part of in the right side of your pic, 80W-90 in all three. Never an issue, not that big of a difference between the weights and the brands.

Is this pretty much the same for a first gen?

I see for the front and rear diff you just fill it up until oil comes out the fill hole. Is the transfer case the same deal?

Yup. It's not like engine oil, it's just lubrication and isn't exposed to heat and fuel like in a motor. Unless you are constantly or competitively mudding or rock crawling or driving those gears really hard, no reason to go too crazy worrying about viscosity or synthetics. Just inexpensive, regular gear oil in a close viscosity is going to be fine.

When you bought your crush washers, did you buy them all in one kit all together?

You can purchase the kit from Amazon or purchase the washers from your local dealer.

Hey guys, I plan to hit my two Diffs and XFR case here soon. I think I bought everything I need except for the oils. Without crawling under my truck, I looked my truck up on the Toyota Owners site and it says mine has the LSD. Question: do I buy additive and add it to the rear diff? Or do I buy oil with it already added? If it's something I add separately, how much? Thanks!

I used the oil with the additive already in it with no problems. Some have had issues with it causing chattering.

Anyone buy this in bulk? Gotta do front and rear diff and transfer cases on my 05 Taco and 07 4runner. Looks like all take the same oil. 75w-90 or 80w-90. Was looking at Super tech Walmart brand but didn't know if it was garbage or not. They sell it in gallon. Also anyone use the AutoZone/harbor freight transfer pump?

I also picked these up https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017V4BAXI

I have an 06 SR5 w/o the LSD and I used the Mobile1 75-90 with the additive and even I had chatter so I had to go back and add the LSD additive. But it honestly is a case by case basis and I think it just depends on the attitude of your truck.

Ok, another (probably dumb) question. The only lubes I seem to find on Amazon all have the LS additive in it from what I can see- didn't realize that the first time. Fine to use in the front diff and XFR?

Also if you need the hex socket set for the front diff, Walmart has the Stanley metric set for $9.83. Youll need them to torque back down. I dont see it online, but we all know how poor their search function is. Got mine last night.

I think I'm set there. I bought all the hex bits a while back, plus the gaskets, pump, etc. Just missing the oils at this point.
