7D4C1D88-FD0E-44E5-B110-ED48ABAE8FBC.jpg is this stock or did the previous owner chain up the spare?

I just noticed it and don’t feel like dropping the spare tonight to find out if I need to cut a lock.

Thats stock, buddy. As you lower the tire the chain tightens. Its a little annoying that it dangles, but this is perfectly normal. Welcome to TW, Joe!

    *I do not have a 3rd gen.
*I have never pulled my own spare.
But, I'm pretty sure that's stock with no lock on it.
    Welcome!

Thanks guys. Just making sure I’m not caught with my pants down on the event of a flat.

Especially since I picked this bad boy up today, a week into the truck.

Excuse for more tires!?!??!? Just to the wife it Couldn’t be patched. B269E8A2-C885-4A5D-961C-9A3616831C5B.jpg

It shouldn’t be patched with that tread. Time for tires, bro. That screw prolly saved you from a blowout.

Who ever taught you to change a flat was not your friend. There is no need to put your pants down when doing it.
Also put another screw in another tire and tell the wife that you have to get 4 tires or the truck won't drive correctly.

Yea, don’t mind buying them, I bought the truck knowing I would need them soon.

Just though I would have more time for research and decide if I’m gonna lift.

At this point, no lift, just as big a tire as I can fit without rub

I was a big fan of KO2s on my F150.

Any tire size advice without persecution for not searching tire size treads?

265/75R16 is a great size for a non-lifted truck if you have 16” rims. Looks stuffed and little or no rub issues.

The chain is what lowers and stows your spare. When you do get new tires, do two things:

    1. Mount the spare with the valve stem pointing down, makes checking spare air pressure a whole lot easier.

    2. Put a lock on that chain to keep others from stealing the spare.

I have a lift now, but fit BFG KO2 265/75/16’s with no problems stock, including the same full-sized spare.

Take a look at the cooper St maxx.

There's a handful of members that have gone from ko2s to St maxx. General consensus is St maxx > ko2.

I had a big fat screw in my tire just like that about a month ago and I learned an important lesson. It should’ve been obvious but, oh well. Anyways. I advise you not to spin the tires if you don’t want that screw to come out immediately and let all of the air out of your tire within a few minutes. I wasn’t even thinking about the damn screw. I saw a sweet wet spot in the road and just punched the gas to get the wheels spinning, totally on impulse. Before I knew it the tpms was letting me know I should pull over real soon .

I would suggest that the first time one lowers and removes their spare tire should be when you don’t have a flat tire.

Defiantly not stock, truck was probably totaled in the past and is being held together by that chain alone.

Yup, the KO2’s are E rated and work out well on sharp rocks and for towing- if you are more likely to be on sand, a softer walled tire is preferable for airing down.
