Yesterday I took the chrome surround off the OEM grill, and I have in mind to take the color match surrond off my home made grill and put it on the OEM one.... I am wondering if it will look good enough to want to keep it? because I'll have to stick it with 3M tape (I think) it won't be easy to take off if I don't like it lol what you guys think about it?

So you have two grilles, and want to take the color matched off one and put it on the other? Just making sure I'm understanding

Thats right I have two grills! I kept the oem one in case I break the aftermarket one I bought to cut it and make a "satoshie", but know I think I don't like it anymore lol and would go back to a stock look front end but with the color match instead of chrome, and the insert painted black instead of the kinda dark brown it is right now.

That's a tough one. On stewie, I was able to separate the surround from the inner part with just some clips and screws. On betty, it was plastic welded together so there was no way to easily put it back together. What is yours like?

Love how clean this looks. The panel fits perfectly between the rails on the prinsu. If/when I throw a fridge in the back and a solar panel up top, I'll mount it like this, at the very front of my cap rack.

That's a big ass fire extinguisher. What about a swingout mount?

edit: Or maybe some quickfist and just lay it on it's side?

The color matched bezel will make your grill appear smaller and that is a cool look in my mind. I like that idea and have contemplated doing that myself when @HomerTaco comes out with the Satoshi for the 3rd Gens. As far as attaching it, tape should work but I recommend using a "adhesive promoter" to adhere it. When I put the body side moulding on my Lexus I used it and that was 1.5 years ago and (knock on wood) no issues.

This is what I used: https://www.sailrite.com/3M-Tape-Pr...VGV1S6TNa_E3aHt2RdJl7hDowq0NJaPBoCvcwQAvD_BwE

The liquid is inside a hard plastic container inside the paperboard tube. You crush the tube and the liquid makes it way to the applicator tip. Buy extra.

I know on Custom Car Grills site they have instructions how to affix a mesh grill to the Bezel with glue. Supposedly this is easy and a permanent job. First you use wire ties to hold it in place and then use Automotive Goop and apply it so that it fills in the area under the mesh, to the bezel and then on top of the mesh, essentially making a giant bead of glue. Sometime two applications is cleaner so the first doesn't run and become visible if you apply too much.

Mine is like Betty. the plastic tabs were kinda melted down to hold on the surround on the inner part. I know I won't put the chrome back on so I broke all the tabs and took it off so I can see the areas where the surround is touching the inner and see if there is enough surface to stick it with two sided tape. think it will work tho. might give a try with the chrome first with cheaper tape to be able to take it off and then stick the color match surround on the oem inner part

Good idea on the adhesive promoter! I'll wash the grill pretty good, give it a small scuff so the promoter grips on the plastic and then use 3M tape.

That will lead to take off the Hella lights I have behind the grill, that I don't use anyway lol and use the wiring for the led fogs instead. Might add some kind of nfab light support on the front, if I ever feel the need of extra lights

Yeah, just use Dawn dish detergent and a scrub brush. Dawn is excellent for degreasing and removing contaminants. Maybe a good splash of alcohol to be sure, or even spray some brake clean on there. If memory serves, I used 2 tubes of that promoter for each side of the car when I put the side moulding on and that was a smooth surface. I would buy extra and just keep what you don't use. I still have a tube. This stuff is what they use at the factory and the dealer when they adhere anything with tape. I know some guys prep for the Satoshi by using a dremel and a grinding disc to completely make all the surfaces flat. Obviously the more flat contact points you have the better it will stick.

I bet JB Weld would be another option. I constantly hear this is the liquid form of Duct Tape in our circles. LOL

Oh, and you can always use your extra lights to illuminate your winch :bananadead:

I like Matt a lot - he’s a great business partner for me. His use of that automotive goop for installs mystifies me. That stuff is so messy!
I plan on creating an install process for mine that does not use that type of product.
