That is different from mine. I have a third gen and here is what the crossbar and bracket looks like on mine. It is a straight center section with 2 smaller sections that you insert into either end that allow you to adjust for the width. In my pic you can see the small hole that you can run the self-tapping screws into once you have it the width you want.

I think you might have the 2nd gen rear bar. The third gen rear bar is curved to follow the top of the tailgate. Did you buy used or new? Wonder if there was a shipping snafu?

This color combo looks tits. Best SpfTopper combo there is which sucks because my Taco is white!
I think the height is dictated by how it's installed, as in how the bars are adjusted & how the tension is applied. Mine ists pretty even but I'm going to see if I can tweak it a bit & make it fit like yours. Yours looks perfect.

I've seen white Tacomas with tan toppers and they look pretty amazing. I've yet to see anyone with a white topper though, but any other color combination just works, IMO. Grey, tan and black, you can't really go wrong....

As long as it's not a Bestop... :anonymous:

If you don't have any issues with the rear panel closing on the tailgate, then I don't see why it would be a problem. For aesthetics or if you cared at all you might want to send an email to ST and see if they'd send you out a new rear bar. From what I understand, the rear panel might be different too (to account for the slack in material needed for the curve).

Mine's black & all my accessories are black so it flows pretty good but still looks pretty utilitarian. Yours looks classy!

Mine is definitely the one depicted in the first instructions. I just sent an email to ST. We'll see what they say.

Just got this response back from ST:

"The 2017 Tacoma 74 inch bed uses the straight bar. You have the newest model which uses the Straight bar. We had a period before your top came out that was a modified version for the 2016's that had a different rear panel and used a curved bar....then we redesigned the new top...( the one you have ) and went back to the straight bar."

So the current long bed uses the straight bar. Not sure if the short bed still uses the curved bar. Great customer service with these guys.

Well, my brand-spanking-new Softopper ordered directly will be delivered to the house tomorrow. I'll post up what the back bar connection looks like. (ordered selecting 3rd Gen DCSB)

I will probably get the hoop and rail bars assembled tomorrow if UPS delivers it early enough, otherwise, I'll do the whole install on Thursday. I'll be trying to get some pictures and maybe shoot some video. Not likely a full 'instructable' as there are a few pretty good assembly videos on YouTube already... but I'll get some stuff to poast here.

Those snaps are a PITA. I drilled mine wrong the first time around and have been lazy to position them. Make sure you have the Velcro in place and exactly where you want it to sit, before drilling the holes for the screws.

I really don't like the idea of drilling into my bed. I am going to see about rigging up some adjustable straps (like on the ST frame) that connect to the lower tie down point on either side at the front of the bed and have snaps at the other end that connect to the ST flap. Clip them in, snap them on and snug them down. Just gotta source the parts.
