Diet Taco... trying to keep things light

I am ashamed to admit that I did not break out the torque wrench for the seat bolts. Besides endangering my own life there is now a significant likelihood that during the next emergency stop both me and my seat will fly through the windshield and kill a small girl carry a box of kittens. Who also happened to just recover from cancer. The girl that is, not the kittens. Kittens with cancer don't recover, you just drown them in a bucket of course.

 

Danke! Interestingly, the size of a wrench handle relative to the fastener head is of course a perfect approximation for the amount of leverage needed for securing a given fastener. As an illustrative and unscientific example, I have an extendable gorilla bar lug wrench handle. When I rotate my tires and do the initial wrench snugging of the lug nuts, I find that on the next round when I use the torque wrench, damn near even one is within a hair of the 83 lb spec. Some are a tad loose, some click immediately. It is very rare to get more than one or two ratchet clicks on the torque wrench.

 

83ftlbs. Crap I've been going with 95ish. Surprised I haven't broken all the lug bolts off.

 

I honestly think I can fart harder than 83 ft/lbs. Purely speculation of course, tough to measure....

Then pucker up hard to capture the barbs for a good seal. Let rip.

 

You could simplify the application:


As an added bonus, the pencil gauge locks out at the maximum PSI reached so you can try and beat your personal best or challenge friends.

 

But no place to tighten the sphincter around for a good seal.

 

Definitely need to lock on high pressure. Where else would Guiness come in?

One thing I've never gotten around to - welding!

Well actually I did take a class in oxy-acetylene welding a long time ago and was almost going to practice some stick welding to make a raised floor in my old truck but it never happened.

 

After reading this post waaaaaaay to late to PM you, I went ahead and ordered each of these books from Amazon. Second best reading purchase I've made in the last 5 years!!! Well after noticing some chicken broth being used I decided there was a simple solution to my problem...

That screw head should be flush, looks terrible. Maybe get one of those plastic washers that have a countersunk (?) hole.With a welder you could just run a bead.

Is this the right way? I'm not sure, should my double nuts have both been Nylock?

I think the accuracy of that scale has been jeopardized.

 

If you had a welder to fix the atrocity, you wouldn't need that oversized (very heavy) bolt, also no need for measuring and your holder would be safe with 4 kindergarten sized pencils (good for your biceps).

 

Shouldn't you really be asking if you should have used a metric cup? Let's confront the elephant in the room, Ken.
