Hey guys, I am in the middle of making some custom front bump stops that better fit the LCA and align better with the frame. I am also working on rear bump stops with mounting brackets for the rear of the Tacoma.

I'd be inrerested in a set. Have been putting off looking into some. And these look nice!

Thank you NightProwler. They are similar to the superbumps in that they are very soft and progressively provide more dampening until the factory bump stop comes into contact with the frame, in-turn bottoming out the suspension stroke. I'm currently making several sets to be tested out by some of my fellow 4runner owners. Once we see that everything is working I will let you know that they are available.

I'd maybe be interested in a set.

    Would you know approximate cost?

One complaint i have with the wheelers is the length. After installing Fox's i realized that regardless of how good /bad your coilover is, the bumpstop's contact and start absorbing energy after 2-3 in of compression. So i feel like im never really using the full potential of the coilovers.
If there was an inbetween the wheelers and stock hockey pucks i would be very interested.
Out of curiosity Why the choice of rubber over foam, Higher durometer?

Foams break down fairly quickly and with the rubbers I have many more options for the Physical Properties. So the rubber allows me more fine tuning ability and the finished product will last longer.

Can the rubber's rebound be controlled though? I assume that's why foam is used. It'll provide resistance to compression, but it won't bounce back like rubber.

Absolutely rubbers rebound can be controlled, and in a much more incremental fashion. Rubbers also have a more standardized ASTM testing format compared to the Foams which seams to still be the wild west when it comes to Physical Property testing. The ASTM standardized Physical Property requirements allows for a bit more realistic look at the raw materials through the Physical Properties sheet. With the Foams one manufactures 10Lb. Foam may feel and act like another manufactures 5lb Foam. Making it difficult to make minute changes. The only way to adjust rebound in Foams to the adjust the weight of the foam (density). SO a lot of trial and error would be needed to come across a foam that worked. With the rubbers there are so many things in the Physical properties that can be manipulated and adjusted its much easier to make an educated decision on what raw material to purchase and begin testing.

I can go on and on about these material types. Its my day job, I'm a Raw Materials Consultant for Silicone's, Urethane Plastics- Rubbers- Foams as well as Pentane blown Foam (occasionally). The truth is Foam is Awesome in the right applications. I work with Foams regularly. For our application there is better. It just needs to be applied and that's what I'm in the middle of figuring out for all of our benefit.

Thank you for the reply and feedback.

    Keep it coming guys!

Sounds good. I figured compound, heat treatment, etc can be adjusted in rubber.

Interested to see what you come up with!

I'm very interested, I've been looking for front bumpstops but like you said, the options are slim and they don't fit well.

Also depends on price...I was going to go Timbrens but they're a little too pricey for me, so I was going to try and make the Wheeler's ones work but I'd rather pick up a set that are designed to fit.

My set well cost less than the Timbrens. I am a few weeks out until the Fronts are complete.

I'm trying to figure out the utility of these...

I have mid travel Kings, and I get the same up travel as stock, with extra down travel. I guess if you toss on huge tires, and you need to limit up travel so they don't contact the inside of the fender, correct?

Oh wait. I guess if you do a spacer lift, you could potentially bottom out the shock before hitting the bumpstops... I guess that's why I don't like spacer lifts... :)

They serve the same purpose as the Superbumps or Timbrens. Which is to help dampen the up travel just before contact with the factory bump. It helps prevent that hard bottom outs on the factory bumps. They just serve as a slight cushion. The ultimate way of doing this would be using gas charged bump stops, but I didn't have the money...

Another reason I decided to make my own was because the Super Bumps and Timbrens don't fit right. They don't have the correct geometry to properly fit/match our trucks. when compressed the weight of the truck is not placed directly over the base, but at a skewed angle which is the primary reason I believe they are failing/separating from there base.
It makes perfect since as a manufacturer to make your product fit as many vehicles as possible. wider audience, more money. They work good for most people. I'd like to have a better finished product and know that I can make it so here I am.

I tried to get the geometry as close as possible so that under compression all the weight will be placed directly over the bump stop. Hopefully to reduce the likelihood of any failure do to shear effect.

Yeah when I was hauling ass in the desert on my last trip, my suspension felt great except for hitting slightly larger bumps where I could feel my front bump stops slamming hard against the contact point...felt like they were made out of rocks. Can't wait to upgrade them

I didnt think I needed any either. Especially with my eibachs, and with how cautious I am not romping it hard or anything. But shit happens.. Plus, one side did get bottomed out pretty darn hard, as I was getting yanked out after being stuck, and landed in the dip right in front of that. So hard it smashed the tire into the wheel well/fender and bowed out the fender a tad. Along with throwing my alignment off. So yeah, definitely in to slap on some easy added "insurance". Heh.
