Just because GM's doesn't have that feel doesn't mean Toyota's is not working. The feedback is normal.

Not really. The brakes will still work even if the accumulator pump goes out, it'll just take more pedal pressure.

But yeah, it's a weird feeling and all but you get used to it. The Land Cruiser has/had the same kind of setup and there's NO noticeable pedal feel when the pump kicks on...but that's like $70-80k range. So I believe Toyota knows how to do it right but probably accepted the "less than ideal" pedal feel from cheaper components to introduce these spiffy features like CRAWL control and ATRAC on a $35 truck.

If you don't want to accept it as normal, keep fighting a losing battle or sell the truck and buy something else.

Whoa, whoa , whoa... Mr red seal mechanic. Are you sure you know what hydroboost is? Hydroboost uses the power steering pump for hydraulic pressure. Tacoma is electric... completely different systems.

went to a dealership and had their master tech guy with me testing out my truck vs. 2 other brand new TRD OR. The brand new ones, barely had any noticeable pulse when depressing the brake pedal vs. mine which was strong. Of course the tech guy said i can't tell the difference. Unbelievable, guess that's Toyota for you.

I have the same slight vibration issue with braking. Toyota says it is normal but it shouldn't vibrate. Anyone get this issue fixed? Why would the Hydro Boost vibrate/flutter as compared to non-Hydro Boost brakes?

    It is normal.

Most brake boosters run off a vacuum assist. Pro and Off Road are different. They use an electric pump that runs on-demand. You feel it because it is probably a positive displacement type of pump... like a fast little bicycle pump.

    It is normal.

Edit: I was unecessarily talking about hydro-boost (that runs off power steering pump).

This has happened to me on my 2017 OR. A little over 11K now, but this has occurred on sudden stops from 30mph and even at 5-10mph. The low speeds have made me worried thinking the brakes were ba, but this thread summarizes it well. Thanks y’all!

2018 TRD OFF ROAD. When I apply brake I hear like a vacuum or something running? Not sure. Might b normal?

Well, the electric pump that provides the hydraulic boost does make noise and vibrations for up to a few seconds; so, probably normal... especially if it coincides with the pedal vibes.

Tharris242 yes! It goes off for a second or so and shuts off. Is this normal for all new Tacomas? Thanks

Normal for all Off-Road and Pro.

The electric booster is apparently necessary to enable crawl control... I guess the vacuum booster can't keep up with all the crawling madness.

The bonus is that it can give you a brake boost even if the engine is not running (ignition on) unlike vacuum boost. Maybe you want to roll a little way down an incline without cranking it up... or maybe you're being towed because your engine won't run (still need battery power, though).

The same exact feeling in my brake pedal randomly started happening on the highway yesterday and caught me off guard. It's happening consistently now and my truck is currently with the dealer, dropped it off right away last night. I have an SR5, though. I'm sure they will tell me today that they cannot replicate it and/or it is normal.

Got a call back and they said two separate technicians stated condition could not be replicated and all is normal. Will see when I pick up my truck

Definitely has not been . I was talking to my wife on my Bluetooth and while she was talking I got startled because my brake pedal suddenly felt different and felt like it was vibrating when lightly pressed. I had to hang up the call to see what was up and I tested it for another 35 minutes on my way home. For the first half inch of pressing it's like there is a cell phone vibrating or something slipping under my boot , then it feels loose and weird .
