Does anybody know if missing the 5,000 mike services you get until 25,000 Miles will possibly void your warranty? I just learned that Toyota will only change your oil at 10,000 and 20,000 Miles so there really isn’t a point in taking my rig down to the dealer to have them “inspect the fluids and rotate/balance the tires” and waste my time there. However, I am also wondering if it will potentially mess with the warranty it has until 50,000 Miles and if so I’ll go waste my time if I really have to. Does anybody know this?

You dont have to go to Toyota for it, by law you can change the fluids elsewhere and keep the warranty going. But the 5,00 is a good one to also have them do freebees- greese the zerks if you say uou think they are dry, check tranny oil level, check and top off the diffs, tighten chassis bolts if you offroad, etc., and its free.

I am to hit 15,000 miles as the only reason I went the first two was the first one to make sure everything is fine since it’s a new truck, and second one the oil change (which I thought they did at the first as well). So if I change my oil and inspect my own rig will there be issue there? I plan on going to the 20,000 mile one as I get an oil change but I don’t trust dealers with inspecting so it seems like a waste of time.

I tow and offroad- so they are lubing my zerks and checking/retightening all the chassis and driveline bolts every 5k miles for free also.

Stop kidding yourself....they aren't doing any of that. Your lucky if they check your oil and top off your washer fluid.

Aint no tech going to check the fluid level of your diffs etc. at a 5k service

? My dealer gives free  and I watch them do the service through the window in their waiting room. They also give free mocha and latte’s. For reals.

But you are right- the diff& tranny level is at 10k- my mistake, but they do the bolts and driveline lube every 5k- just looking at the log right now.

I do it all myself. I hope it isn’t a warranty issue!

I keep good track of it on Microsoft excel for proof!

It would be a good idea unless you can physically prove you had everything checked at the 5,000 mile mark. It won’t nessesarly void warranty if you don’t but when time comes and you gotta get something warrantied they’ll most likely blame you for not doing regular maintenance and they’ll point fingers at you

I write the info in the warranty book and anytime I go to the Dealer I get them to stamp it.

You can do the maintenance yourself. I have found it very helpful to use the toyota owners app or go the website and you put in the mileage, date, and services performed. That info will be attached to your VIN. The 5k is just tire rotation and check fluids(which does not include tranny fluid), and dont forget to inspect the drivers floor mat.

Key words there are "looking on the log" - Yes some very smart engineer wrote list of things to check and "log" when your car come in for service...all that ends up happening is the "log" gets noted but nothing is actually inspected

I always come at this the opposite way - the fewer trips to the dealership the fewer issues with your truck. The dealer will just fill out the 100+ point inspection without actually checking , re-tourqing, or lubing anything. They will probably ding your truck, stain the fabric or my personal favorite which seems to happen each time I bring a car into the dealer...scratch the steering wheel leather.

I do my own maintenance so I know it's actually done...and done right.

Last comment - Avoid the Oil Change bay at all costs, if you do go in for service ensure a tech will actually work on the car and do the oil change. The lube bay guys are rookies and do not have the same factory training as the techs get.

I had my Chevy SS in for an oil change and the I caught the kid plugging in the details for a 4cyl Malibu...on my LS3 V8...I just took the keys and left...coudn't tell the difference between a 4cyl and V8...

Similar happened with my last Taco - I took it in for a recall and watched the service porter stall it 3 times (manual), i just walked up and said "get out"...drove off and never had the recall done (sold the truck a few months later).

My exact feelings. I’m sure they don’t anything, just a simple check box for Toyota to ensure customer satisfaction for the sheep who don’t know much. Looks like I’ll be doing my own maintenance. At 15,000 miles they won’t be doing anything more than I will so I ain’t too concerned. I’ll be going in for the 20,000 mile one though and keeping a close eye on the techs and maybe they’ll prove me wrong..most of them look like they’re fresh out of high school though:sadviolin:

What I meant about “looking at the log” was the list of what is supposed to be done, but you are right- thats why I watch the work. As for service centers like the place that advertises they do lubes in a jiffy, they didnt tell me that they couldnt get my skid plate back on right on my 1st Gen, it was hanging on two bolts when I got home. Then I found out why- an oil filter wrench was stuck between the plate and the oil pan! Rookies

Will not affect your warranty unless something happens to a certain component and it’s related with a service that you cannot support with documents showing it was done. These inspections you see that are done at these intervals are simply visual inspections.

Yea, I learned my lesson on those quick lube places. I just changed the air filters(cabin and engine) on my wife's mini van. Took it around the corner to the oil change place because I didn't want to crawl under it that day. Sitting in the little room this dude comes in and says, Sir, your cabin filter needs to be changed, and he had this dirty filter in his hand. I asked for the manager and showed him my receipt of the new filter and asked him to personally pull my filter. I ended up getting that oil change for free and have not returned to that place.

These rigs are pretty easy to work on. I have been able to do pretty much everything in the driveway with only ramps...any I only need the ramps to change oil easier. Toyota wants those things checked but the dealers and the techs are pressed for time and profit so they just cut that out...even though Yoda is probably paying the dealer .5hrs labor for that.

Having lived in other parts of the world (Australia, Europe) the dealers seem to follow the manufactures process much stricter. Australians are HUGE on "Log Book Service"...it's that little warranty log every car you have owned came with but the dealer has never filled out...Aussies swear by this this thing...even indy shops have an offical stamp and fill it out. It's nice because you can buy a used car with more confidence there...people are proud of their logbook and how well their car is looked after. Similar in Europe...the Germans are well..German...even in England I found everything was followed on our Rover to the letter

Avoid quick lube joints at all costs. The $5-20 savings you’re getting is not worth it.

You mean the water based oil and writing paper filter isn’t good?
