Hello, I just bought a 2018 Access Cab TRD Off-road Tacoma. I love this truck but the only concern I have is the automatic transmission. My last Tacoma was a stick, but due to the fact that my wife cannot drive a stick, I opted for the automatic. I notice that the transmission seems to stick a little when accelerating from a dead stop. My friend also noticed it. When I accelerate, the RPM's go to about 2.5 / 3000 rpm's before it shifts. Is this normal or should I have the truck looked at?
    Thanks in advance

according to the other 95 thousand threads bashing the 3rd gens auto tranny I would assume we have ticked that off as "normal", did you not test drive it prior to buying?

It adjusts to your driving habits. Just drive it for a while and see what happens.

Check out OrangeVirus... at least 500 or so 3rd gen trucks tuned to date and he has fixed the transmission calibration based on my experience.

Still drive it for awhile to see if it gets better b/c I've heard the '18s may have better AI learning (I have a '17) but for me nothing made this truck a joy to drive quite like OVTune!

Welcome to Gen 3 Tacoma ownership. Regarding the transmission, you have now begun the first step in the 5 stages of grief.

It worries me that you don't understand what the word "thousand" means, based on your logic..

If you are implying that this thread is now added to the "95 thousand," wouldn't your comment need to be "make that 95 thousand and 1?"

I think your truck is broken. Go trade it in for a Honda Pilot... now with the rooftop tent mod.

Either teach your wife to drive manual or don't let her drive your manual truck. Don't settle for the slushbox.

Do you need to know, or care?
Couple things, is the engine cold or hot when this happens? If cold, it's normal for shift points to be higher in an attempt to get the engine up to normal operating temps. Second thing, how heavy are you on the gas? It does make a difference.

Just drive the truck put some miles on it, I actually traded my auto in because I hated it so much, have a manual on order should be here in a few days, the last month I have been driving the living piss out of it while I’m waiting for the new one to come in, the truck has transformed into a gem, shifts are perfect, doesn’t hunt for gears or downshift with a 5mph headwind shifts like a truck should... I’m now second guessing my purchase of the manual.
