So right now I need to get tabs for my truck and I have to get an inspection. I've heard of splicing the wire at the ECU. How would you go about this or is there a link that explains this?

    Thank you!

I have had good luck splicing them at the connector located at the top of the timing cover. In my case I just made a jumper and connected the two knock sensor leads together. I did it on the pig tail side of the connector.

I used vamp connectors cause I was testing to see if I had a lazy KS and wanted to be able to remove it. Would be easy to solder and do it clean enough that noone would notice.

Yeah all I'm trying to do is pass emissions so I can get my tabs lol then I'll actually replace the sensor when I have more time

Yeah v6. I've heard some people splicing them to the working sensor to trick the ecu in thinking they both work so I can get rid of the code to pass emissions

Doesn't this bypass the knock sensor all together? Better hope you dont get a batch of bad AM/PM gas :)

nope. just reads both banks off one sensor. bypassing the sensors pulls all the timing putting truck in a limp mode state.

Ah nice, they're really not that hard to replace just have to pull the intake manifold and buy the $100 sensor :)

Yes, those two blue connectors are breaching the insulation on each ks wire. To the right of that greay stock connector is the replacable pig tail. just mimic that pic and later when you have time you can pull the intake and replace the pig tail and both sensors.

90% of the time its the harness thats failed actually. they harnden up and corrode under the manifold.

yep, when I did my 1992 - 2003 3.4 conversion I got all the way done and I had this pesky error, you're right it was the harness that was crispy!

I mean it's not really as easy as you just made it sound. You have to pull the upper plenum, lower plenum, and the intake manifold. And all the things that need to be removed in order to remove those things.

Also yes the jumper thing works fine. I stripped a little of the wires used a little bridge wire right at the ECU. Both banks running off 1 sensor... until the other sensor popped too. Boost does that to the wimpy factory knock sensors. You need to find a EWD for your year truck to get the wires right- toyota liked to change them every few years.

True, but it is the correct way to repair it, Toyota would fix It that way.
