That would be a Yellowstone Cutthroat out of the Yellowstone river. Skated a purple humpy salmonfly along the far edge over a weedbed.

Nice I’m gonna have to get some of those. Seems like a good way to add weight without crowding the hook gap :)
    Also they look great lol

You could always get some micro lead wire and wrap the hook shank. It adds a little body thickness to your dubbing, so you can use less dubbing.
Thanks, going to post more soon.

    Right on :)
when I wrap the lead and dubbing I then flatten the whole thing out with a pair of pliers so’s to give a flat profile and clear the hook gap better

@SpeySquatch @truchador Check out Kelly galloups version of adding weight to the leader itself. Allows the fly to act more naturally in the water as opposed to a weighted fly that’s sinking. It also allows you to add or remove split as needed to desired depth.

Good advice. I usually go with 2-3 micro to small split when nymphing and I ALWAYS run two nymphs.

My new addiction is my 3wt trout spey swinging a bugger followed by a caddis nymph. My first fish ever on it was a 22" rainbow that peeled drag like a bat outta hell
