Well, my truck isn't on ANY recall and I've had to fight for any TSB... Replaced my own failing CKP... And this morning I see this. Was planning a 500 mile round trip weekend including some OR but I'm thinking it would be unwise to drive it that far w/o getting it into the dealer.

Am I overreacting? Just drive it and get it in on Monday? I know it's my truck (and life) but how severe does this look to folks?

I'd go have a good time. As long as it's not dripping, I would go. Just me.

Funny thing is, out of paranoia (I don't trust Toyota's ability to determine the trucks affected under these recalls), I had the dealer change the diff fluid/gaskets/etc,. at 10k for piece of mind. So it's possible they just didn't tighten stuff down but at least I have it documented they did the work, so that's something (even if they actually CAUSED the issue - who knows)

Is it leaking from your dif breather mod? Looks like its comming down from the top- thats what the dealer might say...

I was asking @odinsbro15 - he has one.

Yours doesnt look like it is leaking from the top like his.

I think others are right, go on your trip and do the warranty work when you return. Be sure to ask for a new gasket, its shot. Dont let them just retighten the bolts.

Yeah- I have the breather mod too. Hope that the dealer will not say no leak warranty for me for it, but so far my 2017 dif is dry on the outside. 10k miles so far with a few hundred offroad, some hard towing too for 800 miles on it, too.

Just check the oil level prior to leaving and then go enjoy your trip.

I’d bring just a couple bottles of beer to enjoy at the place I was going for peace of mind, if its leaking enough to have to top it off I would not drive it. But in this case, it’s barely weeping so he doesnt need to worry and can put off fixing it for a few hundred miles.

I used Gasket Sealant, both sides, when I replaced the paper gasket after I added a LSD- torqued to spec and not a drop after 9 months.

I'm surprised Tijuana and San Antonio are still pumping out defective gaskets and seals. It can take years to cycle out defective parts from the assembly line.

I think the rear ends have a made in Thailand or Honduras sticker or something similar.
