Despite your best efforts to flip the script and turn me into the 'attacker', I'll remind you that you initiated this blame-the-installer dialogue, which I'm sure you'll also try to say wasn't deliberately standoffish and you were actually trying to be helpful, even in the face of insulting peoples' intelligence and critical thinking skills, which adds absolutely zero to this discussion.

I don't disagree with your point that someone should be aware of the fitment of the parts they're installing. I never did. What I disagree with is the notion that somehow I shouldn't have an expectation of a part maker to correct something that happened as a result of my following their provided directions to the T.

Now, if you want to call me stupid for not having the foresight to realize how much the rubber vibration isolators would compress, which lost me the finger's width of clearance I had gotten the fitting during install, resulting in the hose contacting the mount while I was offroading, that's fine.

If you want to call me stupid for not grinding down the mount and putting myself into a situation I had read about resulting in someone's shock mount literally cracking into two pieces, that's fine.

I'm not sitting over here thinking that currently not having the rear suspension that I need on my truck isn't my fault at all. I'm sitting here thinking that Fox should fix them for me, I shouldn't have to pay for that, and they should update their damn instructions, or better yet, just put their 90 degree connector on the hose that would fix the problem entirely.

    Have a good afternoon.

Thanks man, both of you have good points here its just the reality of either adjusting the install or having to return it. I say that although I HATE having to return something as Im just too damn impatient.

No notch, and there's a clear contact line on the resi fitting.

Also the top nut is too tight. Instructions say to tighten until flush with threaded section.

You gonna get them serviced again or swapping out for some other shocks?

I may be a little late to this thread but they are contradicting themselves on what's in the instructions and what they advertise.

Honestly, the grinding isn't even probably 100 percent necessary. The major issue is people cranking down on the top nut instead of leaving it flush with the stem. I sanded mine down just in case and then took pictures and sent them to Icon to make sure that it looked ok. It's been a year, lots of desert trails, no leaks, no issues.
I'm not an Icon fanboy. They have been really easy to get a hold of though. If the semi-digressive valving or a little bit of grinding isn't what you're feeling, then buy a set from the other major players.

Oh for sure. I don't doubt that they make incredible stuff. I would love to ride in a truck with Kings to see how what the difference really is. For the moment, my stuff works fine for what I use it for.

I missed this thread but it amazes me how high the expectation is for companies to replace a unit that was not a manufacturer defect but an installation error.

Some of the pics you can even see where the shock bucket makes contact and the manufacturer is blamed and expected to eat the cost?

My argument is why did they not design the shock resi to be a little farther apart from the bucket...like ALL of their competition does? I don't recall many folks having leaking shocks from king...but from the ones that I have seen, well king took care of them for instance. I think fox is pretty good about that too.

At the end of the day if your warranty process dictates that you have to trim your shock bucket in order to receive a warranty should there be a leak...well then why advertise that it is solely bolt on? I guess you can still bolt it on, but without modifying your frame, you can kiss the warranty good bye for support.

Folks do what they want with their money, but why risk it for practically the same price from most of the competitors just to have the groovy "I?" The again your stuff isn't cool unless you custom fab your rig.

Hey! I still have my Icons. Freshly rebuilt too. So I had my chance to go blue, but I stayed with Icon.
