When I got my new 2017, I drove it on a few trips in the first week. I quickly came to the conclusion that the stock Toyo's sucked balls. They reminded me of my old Matrix where it was almost too responsive to steering input. You had to spend too much mental effort keeping it centered in your lane.

Winter was looming so I ordered up a set of Michelin X-Ice Xi3 winters from Costco for the 17" wheels. I told the tire shop they could have the week-old Toyo's or throw them in the recycle bin. The truck handled very well with these Michelins. Very quiet too.

Over the next month, I scored a set of 4 TRD OR 16" wheels on Ebay from a 2017 with only 7miles on them. I bought a set of 4 Continental CrossContact LX20's from Discount Tire with free shipping to the border (Canada was out of these at the Continental warehouse). Now that spring arrived, I mounted them on the truck after a RoadForce balance.

I can't believe how well this truck floats down the highway. It's been decades since I've had anything ride and handle this good. I run the factory recommended pressure of 30psi. And another bonus, Canadian Sport Taco's do not have TPMS which saved a lot of coin and hassle with two sets of wheels.

Why these particular tires? Both were rated at the top in their categories by Consumer Reports. And what's more relevant, the tire sizes used in their testing were identical to factory Tacoma 17-inch. My experience FWIW.
