A DIFFERENT kind of LSD noise..

    When I'm turning sharp...left or right...I am hearing a scuffing sound from one back tire. Usually the outside tire, but sometimes the inside if it's on the looser surface.

    The sound is exactly like tire scuff when drive line is binding on sharp turns in 4WD except I KNOW it's in 2WD. I've even done a double check on the light, several times, it sounded so similar.

    Is this normal? I know I have LSD, and this sound definitely is NOT coming from the diffy..it's coming from the tires! Just wanta make sure 'cause the trucks coming out of warranty soon!

    I also have an 07 DC 4X4 sr5 with lsd and changed lube this past weekend at 100k. I had no problem before the service but now have a soft shutter type sound that I'm sure is coming from diff. I used mobil 1 synthetic for limited slip and even added (after the fact) the lsd additive and no better. I'm getting ready to call stealership and inquire.

    Sounds like you need to add a little bit of LSD additive to the rear differential.

    Color matched door handles, Weathertech floor liners, bed mat, Durafit seat covers, tailgate clamp, 2016 TRD Sport 17" wheels with Yokohama Geolander AT tires , Toyota exhaust tip, Toyota/Yakima bike rail mount, Toyota wheel locks, Toyota hitch cover, Redline hood struts, unifilter on air pump.
    I've seen this first hand on a lot of Corvettes. The cure is to not use synthetic oil. Use a high quality 80w90 with limited slip additive. Change it every 30,000 miles and you should have no problems.

    There is your problem. Gona have to drain the Mobil 1, its not compatable with our LSDs and frown, then get some cheap valvoline and chevy lsd additive and smile at the cost savings going forward.

    Do you know if the Redline
    $29 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)
    75W-90 GL5 is compatible with the LSD's? I believe its synthetic as well.:rolleyes: I also have some Redline LSD additive.

    Noise is definitely NOT coming from the diffy, it's coming from the tires. The diffy still has factory fill in it with only 18K miles (I'm timing out on the warranty) so I pretty much know it must have the right stuff in it. (or do I...hmmmm)

    I've read this in I don't how many groups: don't use synthetic oil in clutch-type LSD's. Only a high-quality mineral oil of weight mfr. recommends and the recommended LSD friction modifier!

    ALSO: pay VERY close attention to GL5 vs GL4!! It's not a pretty sight when the brass synchro's start to corrode away in manual tranny's!!
