Show us your truck bed sleeping platform/drawer/storage systems

I think i've seen a photo of your setup. Either that or someone else that has the same thing. Looks like a great setup for the long bed.

 

I'm using a mattress from a full-size futon. The fit is just about perfect in a 2nd gen DCLB.

 

I've only heard glowing reviews about paco pads, so I'm stoked. I've seen pictures of friends using them as rafts in fairly heavy whitewater, so I figure it should hold up to a couple people and a wet dog no problem.

 

I have a decent futon in my attic going to waste. I think I will go this way when I need to sleep back there.

 

Have a couple sleeping pads underneath, pretty comfortable, sorry for crap pictures tho..

I’ve got the same one and am actually really happy with it. I keep it folded up most of the time and when it’s all folded it’s still lower than my cab window. Length wise it’s tight but it compresses fine with the tailgate closed. I kind of wish it was a bit wider because there is a gap around the sides but it really isn’t an issue to sleep on. I also got the indoor/outdoor version that has a full removable cover in case we ever need to wash it.

 

A lot of the futon mattresses out there are made with cotton padding which will hold moisture really bad. Just something to be aware of for the back of the truck.

Also, visco memory foam mattresses tend to get hard in the winter, something I found out by accident with my old VW after using a foam topper on the bed during the warmer months.

 

Doing this project this weekend. How are all of y’all mounting drawers to the bed?

 

Got everything trimmed and locked down this morning. Super pumped to give this a test. Did the simple set up with 2x6 cross boards then 3/4” plywood on top. Cut an outdoor rug to fit exactly on top and rigged some cheap Amazon lights up on the ceiling with Velcro for the mood lighting at night

 

I am so excited to finally start my drawer build!! First order of business is install these bed supports that have sat in my shop for close to year. Haha
I’m going to do a Pask Makes (YouTube) style drawer w/ bearing and tubing.
I use my truck for work so it will be mostly tools that are quite heavy. I also want to install a Bedslide on the top deck. I don’t see many builds like this. Any done it or have any advice? I know the Bedslide classsic is rated for 1000#. It would be rare that I have that kind of weight.
I will see how it holds up?

Finishing up on my version of the Pask Makes drawer system right now. Should have some pictures tomorrow. Not sure about standing in the drawers like he did, but they are very sturdy.

 

Yeah, I am only doing 1/2” for my drawer bases so I wouldn’t do that either haha. It’s hard to tell but he probably used 3/4 for everything.
I would love to see pics!! Where did you source your 1” tubing? Home D wants $22 per 6’ section. Seems awfully steep?!

 

I got a decent start on my drawers today. I wish I could have made them taller but I want to add a bedslide on top and that alone takes up another 4.5”.
What did you guys use as a sealer? Leaning towards spar varnish or eurathane?
Where did you source 1” sq tubing for those that did that?

 

He did use 3/4" all the way around. I went for a 1/2" base but 3/4" for sides and drawers for strength and it still gives me an 8" deep drawer. I got the tubes from Home D at 48" for 1" tubes. I think they were $14 each? I have a DCLB so it gives me a 23" back pocket that I will eventually use for a water tank.

Where did you get your stiffeners from? I've been keeping an eye out but everything I've seen so far has a bracket at the joint that closes off the access to the side pocket and I want that open.

 

I used 1/2” base as well. Everything else but the drawer bottoms will be 3/4”
Yeah I want the full depth but for camping the water systems look awesome. I am considering just getting a road shower (or making one) for camping and beach etc.
The stiffeners are from Bentrodder here on the forum. The are really well made and a perfect fit! Not really a fan of some of the other ones. Although his is very similar to Total Chaos.

 

Any insight on this? Going to Home Depot tomorrow morning. Plan on using the front d rings to attach to the front but don’t know what to do with the back.
